Welcome to my 40k Kill Team project log! I'll start by talking a little bit about my thoughts on the current state of 40k and how it has shaped my hobby. If you don't care to read my ramblings, please feel free to skip to the pics below.

I have not played much 6th edition 40k, partly because of a lack of time, but also due to a lack of interest in building a large army, as I rarely play these days, also due to a lack of time. Being a long time Necromunda player, I love converting models and really focusing on a smaller group that I can take my time on. Skirmish games like this also have the added bonus of playing quicker typically, which means I'm more likely to get games in here and there. A large 40k game taking the better part of the day is a luxury I rarely get to indulge.

When GW re-released the Kill Team rules for 6th Edition, I was pretty excited about it. I've held the belief that a 40k skirmish game is something GW should focus on more, as it allows a lower price of entry for new players, as well as allowing quicker games for people like me who just can't devote a ton of time to gaming. Anyway, I decided to jump back into 40k and start with a new faction as well. Another bonus for Kill Team is I can grab a few boxes of models I may not have otherwise purchased and try out a new faction for a relatively small amount of money. It also means I can play more factions for less money by not having to build up to 1500+ points for standard 40k army. Hopefully some from GW is reading this and taking notes.

So I've started a Tau kill team first, but also got some stuff for a possible Fallen Dark Angels kill team that I may get around to after my Tau are done. I'm also wanting to see if Imperial Guard gets some plastic stormtroopers, as that may finally get me to start an Inquisitorial warband. Such is the beauty of building 200 point armies, you can buy all those awesome new kits without having to build a full army!

Anyway, for my Tau I've actually got a few kits, but I've started with some Firewarriors and a Stealth Team. I'll be working on some Pathfinders and Kroot, and then I've got a Crisis Suit as well. Should keep me busy for awhile and try out a few different builds with these kits.

Here is what I've built so far.

Shas'ui with a mini drone, just for fun:

The firewarriors with pulse carbines. I've loaded them up with gear to give them a spec ops look.

Group shot:

Stealth suits - nothing special on these guys. I think they look awesome just standard:

So along with my kill teams I decided I needed to finally build a portable gaming table I've been planning on building for ages, but just never got around to it. I also am building a huge amount of terrain to go with the table, which can scale up for Zone Mortalis games if I want to play bigger games at some point, but stay on a 4x4 table.

Getting set up in the garage:

Here is the other half of the 4x4 folding table. These will fold flush on hinges and have foam base for game board. The board will also be stained to give it a nice finish. These are popular on PP forums, which is where I got the idea. That said, when all is said and done, it is actually cheaper to just get a Realm of Battle board if you don't have the space or tools to build you own. Not to mention, aside from painting, it is just alot quicker to get set up with RoB. Alas, I've got to do everything the hard way, but in the end it will look a bit nicer I hope!

Organized chaos:

Some work on the first building:

Makeshift bases for some objectives/terrain pieces:

Objective markers/crate terrain pieces:

Some tank traps:

Some basic craters. These were actually for plaster moulds, but for $5 I just cut them out to use for decorative terrain pieces to fill up the board.

So that's all for now. I've have enough of the building sets to make 4-5 more buildings of similar size to the one above. I should have a dense city board once all is said and done. Hopefully it won't take too long to get it all done, though that's probably wishful thinking.

Please feel free to leave me some comments or questions, I always appreciate the feedback!

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Looks like I caught the start of a neat P&M blog for once! No 50 pages to trawl through, yet I too am finding kill team intriguing, may keep me interested in 40k as I'm in a similar situation without a lot of time to play and preferring to convert and paint. Your building looks good, interested to see where you go with this project.

I've got my second building constructed. I'll be adding the basing and rubble to all these at once after I've constructed the core buildings.

And the first two buildings side by side:

More updates to come soon.

Those should work well in game, where do the plastic components come from, if ii might ask?

The buildings, crates and tank traps are all Dust Tactics terrain. The blast craters are GW.

I agree skirmish games are really fun. Your terrain looks great already.
