Just something I'm wondering about. I have the opportunity to learn 40k at my local GW, just need a few more troops in my nid army apparently. But with the rumours of "7th edition", should I wait until when this is released? Is there big changes in the way the games are played between editions? Would it be bad to learn 6th now and then have to re-learn 7th?
If the changes aren't that big of a deal then I guess I could learn to play before it comes out. Thoughts?

learn it now. 7th edition is nothing more than rumours, and any stuff you pick up now is likely to be still useful whenever 7th edition comes along.

I doubt 7th will be all that much more different than 6th. Certainly at the basic level of learning.

And 7th is far out on the rumor mill.

The basics of the game will probably stay the same regardless. If you learned the rules in 3rd edition back in 1998, you'd still get the hang of 6th relatively quickly. I also don't buy the 7th edition rumors, but you never know.

I agree. No problem in starting to get a feel for the game while finishing painting up your army. Plus, you're still new enough at this that there probably won't be very much you'll have to un-learn by the time 7th comes out.

Furthermore the inklings for 7th all point to a 6th edition revision incorporating Escalation, Stronghold and Dataslates into cohesion with the rulebook.

Learn now. 6th edition is basically 3.3.

3rd edition is 3.0
4th edition is 3.1
5th edition is 3.2
6th edition is 3.3

So the rumoured 7th edition people are basically saying 6.5 which really would be 3.4

NONE of the edition changes are drastic as say 2nd to 3rd was. They are all small tweaks and a small few things added in.

So the rumours you are hearing are basically will be 6th edition with Stronghold Assault and Escalation put in to make it official and maybe a few rules tweak.

So learn now to get the basics down, IF 7th comes out. Then again IG was to be released in March and we see how that came out to be true.

Not all that much changes from one edition to the next, as far as the basic rules are involved.

Go ahead and learn it.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
