So after being on hiatus for a while. I felt like trying something different. I am a long time Ork player and love to play them so much. I am not a WAAC player, but I do like to win. I build list that are somewhat fluffy and competitive, at least I like to think so. So I guess tell me what you think?

I've started running a 1850 with Ork allying with Tau. Gotta say I've been getting a lot of fun out of using cadre fireblade with my fire warriors, volley fire is awesome, plus with his drones it's effectively more wounds.. I thought an ethereal would be good, but because of the buffs they give your tau they're going to be a target quite early. Park your FW and HQ behind an adl with your lootaz. You won't get support fire for your Lootaz because of AoC but you'll put out a lot of dakka from that base and give everything a 4+ cover save.
Footslogging will struggle, even with KFF and kans. However the beauty of Tau and Ork combined is cc and firepower. It all depends on your opponents. They can't ignore both long range and in your face.
I run with a hammerhead in my list so can't offer advice on broadsides. However railgun and add submunitions gives you more flexibility for very little point cost. If your facing heavy mech infantry switch your crisis suits to plasma and fusion if you can.
Hope that helps

Hey thanks NedDredd. My plan is to use Orks as Tau. The Etheral will be a Runthearder for the Firewarriors (grots). Either Orks or Grots will be piloting the Crisis suits and Broadside.

I am really against the Fortification in the game so I refuse to use them.

I plan on keeping it a purely shooty army. Which means I will not try to assault unless I have a good time to do so or in dire need to try. I was thinking trying to do a Farsight list as the allies. I unfortunately don't know the rules for them other then I can take Crisis suits as troops. So I need to find them and possible try a list with that.

Put thanks again for your input.

That would be incredibly unfluffy, as Enclaves hate Orks, and have them as Preferred Enemy. Other than that go for it.

It would be more so of "looting" the suits. I just get more suits in there this way.

Who else would know how to fight Orks then Orks themselves?

Well, the best options as tau allies for orkses are considered to be: Commander, Riptide, Broadsides, Kroots.

Why Kroot? I have never been a fan of Kroot either game play or models. They just don't do anything for me. I thought about a riptide. But they seems to be over used and just silly in a way. But will look into that.

Kroot are just a tax as you have to bring at least one troop unit. most people outflank as late in the game as possible.

As mentioned if you really wanna lay down some hurt get 3 Broadsides and attach a commander with all the goodies to them. A fully kitted out Broadside Team will dishout 24 TL S7 AP4 missiles with ignores cover and monster hunter or tank hunter and an additional 12 S5 AP 5 missiles with ignores cover and that don't need line of sight. Chew on that for a minute.

I love the look of looted suits though, have fun converting that up!

Kroots are actually quite potent. They have bolter equivalent weapons, bs3, infiltrate and stealth in the woods. Besides, they can get accute sences. And the most interesting option is kroot with sniper rounds. They're super-effective if used correctly boasting more damage output than unbuffed firewarriors.

I am used to old Kroot. I played tau when they first came out. Tau was ok for the time but got bored with them and then sold them off. I don't have the new Tau dex yet as I have been contemplating this for some time now.

So I guess I better borrow or buy the new Dex to read a bit of everything I can do with it first.
