I was looking for a place to buy magnets that wasn't rediculous.

So far this has been the best I can find locally.

Walmart

http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/super-magnets/6000103307812

I just hit them with a hammer and the magnet comes out real easy.

At local hobby store they want 16$ for 25.... for $16 at walmart and a little smashy smashy you get 80.

Cheers

(still working on finding smaller ones)

They are the same size as a space marine arm socket, So will not work for most infantry.

Welcome to the internet, you do not need to find things locally, you can buy them online So far I've bought all my magnets from ebay. Though my last batch was a couple of years ago, not sure if that's still the cheapest option.

Why the insistence on local magnets? You will simply end up spending more for substandard products. Trust me when I say neodymium magnets are the way to go and online is your best bet to find the good stuff.

Generally as a Canadian, after you factor in shipping to Canada, AND duty, the product no longer becomes "better" priced.

As for buying locally.... Even purchasing at Walmart, which is an american company, keeps local people employed. Gotta keep the local economy running.

I also don't like buying over the internet, I'm the paranoid type.

As for how strong, they are quite strong.

I don't know if they will work for the largest things, but they definatly stop a mini from falling.

I'd say either https://www.kjmagnetics.com/ or go Amazon.com (100 mags for $7? Your case $10? YES)

As for "paranoid" type, do what my little brother does:

Go hit walmart and put $50 on a Visa Giftcard (refillable if you'd like). No connection to your bank account, thus safe from harm. If the number gets stolen, you're only down $50 (or whatever other amount you choose).

I only do my transactions via Paypal, and i'm very careful about reviewing websites and security certificates of websites before punching in my soul. Paypal insures your transactions (Xbox account hacked once, was refunded full in 24 hrs). HTTPS connections only with accredited locations, and I like to see a Better Business Bureau logo on the "About" page (which I will research to make sure they didn't just copy the logo from Google).

Your choice is yours, but previous posts are correct. Neodymium or bust, unless you've got a good hobby shop nearby (I'm thinking RC cars, planes, etc. Lots of hardware type of place) they're pretty difficult to find. It's $6 for TWO neodymium mags from Radioshack (which are typically too big anyway) and I haven't found them elsewhere.

I know what you mean about local. I'm a farmers market guy. Try to find Canadian websites!

Again, choice is yours. And I don't mean to sound like I'm bashing your practices, I mean no offense.

ODD QUESTION: Just did a google search for "Neodymium magnets + Canada" Are small magnets banned in your neck of the woods?

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Hey
Ive never heard of magnets being banned in canada? I also live in the great white north and buy mine online. I just bought 1000 magnets 1/8" X 1/16 off ebay for $24 with free shipping. I also bought 800 earliers this year of the 1/4 X 1/16" for around $30 shipped. So far i am very happy with the quality, though asian shipping takes a month to arrive, its well worth the savings.
