I recently purchased the Hive Tyrant/Swarmlord and I have a question about the placement of the Wings Biomorph in the Hive Tyrant config.

Reading the Tyranid Codex it merely states a point value for the Hive Tyrant to get wings. It doesn't say anything to the effect of replace one of the weapons with wings if you take this upgrade. Yet in the model I have the wings fit into the shoulder slot where a weapon would go.

So on the model if I take wings I lose a weapon option, but in the codex if I take wings I should still have 2 weapon options. Question is which is correct config? Does a Wings biomorph upgrade replace one of the existing weapon options for a Hive Tyrant or can I alter the wings so they fit on the tyrant but still allow the full two weapon options?

The codex is correct, the model is just stupid.

The model does not come with TL Devourers either, but that doesn't mean you can't equip your Hive Tyrant with them.

On the model you'd "lose" a weapon slot, which is why some people use the fleshborer hive (from the tyrannofex) to represent 2 pairs of twin-lined devourers on their tyrants.
in the rules you still can have 2 weapons, the legs could represent a pair of scything talons. It's hard to have a WYSIWYG flying tyrant though

The codex trumps, it is the book which is informing us what is and is not a legal choice.
The model is just a physical representation, no reasonable person is going to ever state that it can trump the rules.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Have you met the internet? I dearly wish this was in fact the case. Though I suppose for a certain definition of 'reasonable' it could happen.

You can see the flying tyrant uses different legs, the legs are scything talon legs.

Tyranids come with 6 limbs, the flying varieties have wings instead of legs.

If you wanting something other than ScyTals, maybe you could model them as the legs? I'm not sure, I haven't bought a flying Tyrant as of yet.

If you don't mind altering the model just attach them elsewhere. Mine have 2 legs, four arms and 2 wings.

-It is not the strongest of the Tyranids that survive but the ones most adaptive to change.

Some tyranid players will become very upset if you don't replace the weapon slot with the wings because in the fluff the tyranids have only 6 limbs, so a winged tyrant cannot have 2 weapon arm sets, wings, and legs...

Of course fluff =/= rules so

Another suggestion would be in the way of FW harridan, melding a set of weapons in the wings

NeoRealist,
One of the things I did during proof was add the word reasonable for just that reason, there are always people whom will argue the ridiculous and they all have an internet connection.

Ha that's pretty much exactly how I made my TL devs. I just used the arms they provided for the Swarmlord and cut them down to make the arm split into two right before the elbow. Just a matter of sticking a dev on each fist after that.

Haha, true. That has definately been my experience as well.

This drove me nuts, even with it being my second model ever constructed, so I drilled two extra holes behind the arm sockets. It was uncomfortable, since this hobby isn't cheap(especially just getting started). When I get home, and if I can figure out how to add pictures, I'll show you what I did. I think it looks fairly natural. This isn't the only case where the rule book and model don't mix well(at least in my opinion), the Mawloc can have three pairs of scything talons on the model.

Thanks I would appreciate any pics and a "how I did it" to help me figure out how to properly do this.

Example. I know there are 8 limbs on one, but I argue that you can have a limb split into both talons and wings. Frankly, having an extra pair of scything talons seems worthless to question. One pair won't grant extras, and MC's attack at AP 2. I mention this because it looks like it can melee now, instead of bashing his guns against someone(WYSWYG shouldn't judge, it won't change how the model behaves).
