Subject: Talos vs Sahaal
|
 |
Angry Chaos Agitator
|
I kinda felt like Talos was a foil of Sahaals personality. Both represent those who stayed true to the long war rather than just trying to become demon princes but are different in many ways.
The most striking way is that Sahaal sees it as his right to command even though its denied to him, Talos on the other hand doesn't want to command but ends up doing it.
Talos also rejects the ruinous powers while Sahaal has no guilt trips. He'd probably like hanging out with Uzas.
Psychologically their very different, Talos spends much of his time feeling hopeless and believing the long war is lost, Sahaal never cares about the odds and always expects to win.
Despite being willing to accept aid from Chaos Sahaal actually seems more sympathetic to civilians and chides Acerbus on indiscriminant slaughter while Talos feels he has the right and duty to kill everything single imperial regardless of age sex or ability to defend themselves. This is not because Sahaal is more moral but he seems to be almost Alpha Legion in a way, he sees Imperial civilians as potential allies and terrorist that he can employ. If he had been in charge when the Night Lords returned to Tsugulsa he probably would have butchered the first city and then drilled the surviving population to invade other planets.
Talos ultimately is more successful despite having more modest ambitions, he cripples a region of Imperial space and helps fufill a prophecy where the 8th legion is united and Uthwe dies.
Sahaal is a Terran pre Primarch Astarte while Talos is a Nostroman criminal.

Talos seems to respect and even envy many his enemies. Sahaal is screaming "death to the slaves of the false emperor!!!!".

Always been more of a Sahaal follower IMO.
Lord of the Night was one of my first Black Library books.
The tale of One Chaos Marine doing that much damage was awesome...

lord of night was a great book, not that talos and his books werent. Talos just kind of deals with chaos, its more of an annoyance to have to deal with these psychos ie. this brothers who are more and more losing their minds due to chaos. sahaal hates chaos and sees it more as the night lords schackling them selves to another power who just uses them.

Yea but maybe too awesome, I think ADB even said he was afraid he'd mess it up.

I really hope ADB gets around to Decimus. I want to see the Nightlords have at least a moment of doing more than just scraping by and he's the man for the job.

First he needs to explain what happened to the rest of Night Lords characters before he starts on a new project.

It's been awhile since I read the trilogy but if I remember correctly in the third book all the characters are... wrapped up.

It's implied that Septimus and Octavia are both dead, as it's incredibly unlikely that they would willingly give up their child to Variel, and he would have absolutely zero compunction with simply killing them and taking it. ADB has stated (I think it was in an interview) that he'll never touch Sahaal. He doesn't really like the character much. So that pretty much means Mita won't be re-visited again either.

Maybe its just me but none of those characters having glaring open ends more so than Decimus. Sure we don't know their whole life story but as far as the legion is concerned their stories seem over. Decimus however, is implied to have an enormous effect on the future of the Night Lords.

ADB doesn't own GW, he may refuse to write on Sahaal or Mita but that doesn't mean no one else will. By the way Sahaal has been mentioned in three different books, it would be a waste not to include him.
