The bit/symbol above the head are either for Imperial or Mechanicus Knights, but if you don't use either of those it leaves a whole where the bit fits in. For a Freeblade Knight would it be best to just fill the hole in with greenstuff? Or maybe add your own?

I intend to use that area to fit on a Hand symbol to show a long allegience with my Iron Hands, its a nice spot to custom up a symbol to show your own personal affiliations though leaving it blank is an option.

The freeblade has its own bit to fill that spot. Haven't gotten to that bit in assembly yet, but I know they highlighted it in the WD. Don't remember exactly what it looked like though.

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

The green one at the bottom of this page is a Freeblade:

In the instructions if you look at the table it shows, it actually says both that one and the eagle are Imperial symbols, and the other one is Mechanicus. So there's really no Freeblade bit...

It says Imperial Knight and then shows the two bits and the helms that go with Imperials, and then on the right side it shows Mechanic symbol and helm.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think the reason they used that bit is just because the units Freeblade Knights use probably once were Imperial or Mechanicus aligned.

because freeblade knights are still allied to the imperium they have lost their conection to their noble house not the imperium

the wreath type symbol is freeblade the imperial eagle is noble knight allied to the imperium

Ah ok, that's weird heh you'd think they would have listed the wreath type symbol under Freeblade and not Imperial

Gathering the Informations.

The Freeblades use the wreath bit, referred to as "The Laurels Fidelis". It's a laurel-wreathed skull which indicates their continued loyalty towards the Imperium of Man, despite leaving their Houses.

So then why would there also be the imperial eagle? Shouldn't they have given bits to place there representing some of the houses and not Imperium for the regular Imperial Knights?

It seems like the imperial eagle would fit the description you have above of them leaving their houses but still loyral to the Imperium of Man.

So then the imperial eagle knights AND the ones wearing the Laurels Fidelis are both loyal to the Imperium? So they never had a "house" symbol on there, always an Imperial Eagle or Laurels Fidelis depending on if they were Imperial Knights or Freeblades?

they have the giant pictures painted on their armor to denote their house not some tiny insignificant carving.
