Can an IC join a vehicle squadron?

For example, can I take an Ork Warboss on a Bike and join him to a squadron of 3 buggies (vehicles)? Could I take a Farseer on a Bike and put him with a unit of Vypers? Could an Ork Big Mek join a unit of Killer Kans?

Page 39 of the rulebook covers it under the Independent Character rules:

Independent Characters can join other units. They cannot, however, join vehicle squadrons
