A Pirate's Life 25pt Army List

Captain Phinneus Shae - +6
Dirty Meg - 1
Nomad - 6
Nomad - 6

Commodore Cannon & Crew - 4

Max Sea Dog Crew - 8
Mr. Walls Sea Dog Crew Quartermaster - 2
Bosun Grogspar - 1
Doc Killingsworth - 1
First Mate Hawk - 1
Lord Rockbottom - 1

As can be seen from my signature, I've only ever known the Khador beginner set and am looking to expand. I've delved in a number of tactica's surrounding playing A Pirate's Life merc list which I'm eager to try out, and I think this is what a good set-up is for them at 25pts but I'm not sure if I have too much or too little of certain things. So if anyone familiar with pirates could give this a look over and throw some pointers I'd much appreciate it

A lot of what you will play will have to do with your meta. If you go up against a lot of jack heavy lists, the following recommendation may not be for you. If you are facing against a lot of solo/infantry heavy lists, this one will make short work of them.

That said, the list looks good, except it's worth fitting in a max unit of press gangers and reducing the sea dogs to a min. Press gangers will be eff. mat 7 and PS 9 + 2 + 4 dice on the charge (becuase of Object of Desire from Hawk, a lot of people don't realize it works on Press Gangers who are a Sea Dog unit.) With that large damage output on the alpha strike against solos/infantry you will easily fill up your Sea Dogs past full for free and they will get to activate after your press gangers.

At 25 points, my Shae list looks like this:

Shae
- Freebooter

Grogspar
Killingsworth
Hawk
Rockbottom
Meg
- Buccaneer

Commodore Cannon

Max Press Gangers
Min Sea Dog Crew
- Mr. Walls

I essentially use the Commodore to bully heavies by pushing them around until I can get a buccaneer/freebooter on them. Freebooters are great vs. knocked down targets, but are much more fragile than the Nomad. To be honest I have been on the fence for quite some time as to whcih to run, Nomad or Freebooter, and I have seen the mathhammer which does show on paper the booter is better, but what do you do against jacks that can't get Knocked down and colossuls?

In fact I recently played a 25 point game against someone who was running Prime Axiom (fortunatly for me he was running the rest as infantry). I had a heck of a time taking it out, and in the end just cast veil of Mists on Axiom and charged through it to get the assassination. I was running the freebooter and without knockdown the damage output just isn't there.

I guess what I'm saying is it's all preference in terms of which heavy you take.

25pt is a little wonky due to not being able to take down armor reliably. You can cut a nomad for a unit of press gangers as it might be better to tie up a heavy instead of sending a nomad at it. This is because you will usually want to cast coup d main on the charge and won't have enough focus to allocate to two jacks. Overall I have mixed feelings about the nomad. It's great for its points but it usually ended up dying after it charged and didn't end up accomplishing much for 6 points.

My 35 pt list
Faction: Shae - A Pirate's Life
Casters: 1/1
Points: 35/35
Tiers: 3
Captain Phinneus Shae (*6pts)
* Galleon (18pts)
* Commodore Cannon & Crew (Commodore and 3 Crewmen) (4pts)
Press Gangers (Leader and 5 Grunts) (4pts)
Sea Dog Crew (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Mr. Walls Sea Dog Crew Quartermaster (2pts)
Bosun Grogspar (1pts)
Dirty Meg (1pts)
Doc Killingsworth (1pts)
First Mate Hawk (1pts)
Lord Rockbottom (1pts)

To shrink to 25 I take out the press gangers, which ever solos and mr walls. You can ignore tier 4 as the bonuses are as huge. To get to 50 I add in some riflemen, press gangers, and A+H.

The Galleon is great on shae as he doesn't have to allocate too much focus (being on focus 6), it has a great screen due to all the toughs they have to burn through, and it's a great answer to heavies.
