Hullo there! question is pretty much in the title! I've had a quick look around the net but haven't had a lot of luck, I've only seen a handful of mermaid miniatures in Reaper Minis (literally only three or four miniatures.) I've found some Kraken looking creatures on there, and a couple of 'tentacle' abominations. But I haven't found a looot.

Are there perhaps any others around anyplace else? I'm looking for practically anything sea-related to browse through, though specifically it is for a sea-related, corsair-ish Dark Elf diorama, with the Dark Elves ensnaring/using sea creatures to do their evil-bidding. So hmm, sea monsters, sea-ladies, tentacle things, anything like that --- I absolutely love how the new Dark Elf army book is quite 'sea' related, with Lokhir, the Kharibdyss etc. -- I'm looking for models that might fit in to that 'feel'.

Actually... a sea creature horse-sized mount for a dark elf model would be amazing too, but I can't even think what that might be.. but there may be something! ^^

p.s. I am looking specifically for models, not scenery = D

As usual any information at all is very much appreciated! Thanks for reading!

Ahh thank you pancakeonions (p.s. Pancake day today! oooh yeah) that list WAS helpful, saw a couple of nice mermaid models there! -

http://www.fantization.com/pre-order-mermaidlimitededition-30mmresin-origenartx1fig.aspx and

http://www.kabukimodels.com/en/21st-century-pin-ups/29-the-mermaid.html there

the first model there is absolutely beautiful.

although they're 30mm, aren't warhammer fantasy models considerably smaller? although I may have got that completely wrong, I thought warhammers are 20-25mm =S even so, I suppose mermaids could be bigger than elves, it is all fantasy anyhow.

And nels1031, aye the Merwyrm is a little too big, although it is just the sort of sea related thing I'm looking for so thanks for the input! = )

I suppose I'm a little surprised there isn't a completely 'sea army' or big collection of 'sea-related models' hiding on some gaming/model website I just haven't seen yet. I mean.. the sea is pretty cool..

Look deeper into reaper. Download their not-in-catalog pdf and you'll find several aquatic familiars and other fish types. They will cast these on demand.

Warhammer is generally called "heroic 28mm"
Which basically means 28-30mm, often due to muscles making them look a little bigger than the 28mm they claim to be.
The height measured is *supposed* to be feet to eyes, and dwarves are generally ~23mm while humans try to hit the 28mm mark. Not sure where they would measure from to get your fish-ladies into the size comparisons, but my guess is they will fit in quite well and look only a tiny bit larger than a normal human as far as the body goes, while the tail of the first (beautiful) miniature would of course make her very long.

tl;dr: 30mm figures in a 28mm game look slightly more heroic, so work better for characters than rank and file, but fit in without looking silly big.

That said, it looks to me like the base of that mermaid is a 40mmx40mm base, just eyeballing it, and that would make her larger than a 30mm model. EIther that, or she is crazy detailed for a model on a 20x20mm base.

edit: I found this on a forum talking about this and two other models by the same creator:

To all who asked us, we detail below our miniatures scales and the material that has been used:
All are made in resine of quality and the scales are 30mm for the end of the battle, 42mm without antlers the faun woman, and 70mm the mermaid.
Greetings!

So it seems to be mis-labeled as it should say 70mm... either that, or they're making a reprint of it smaller than the original (that post is from 2012 after all, saying there will only be a run of 400 models.)

editagain:
Yeah, their blog also confirms it. She's 70mm.

You could still use her as a monstrous creature if you could get a hold of the model

First address is Deep Wars with a complete undersea skirmish game:
http://antimatter-games.com/products-page/
In the future, they will also rerelease the old Dragonblood fishmen and sea monsters.

Second: Reaper has indeed a lot of marine miniatures, like sea elves, fishmen, aquatic familiars etc.

My favorite the Goroloth:

Hordes Minions have some sea creatures big and small, some marine warjacks can be found under Warmachine Mercenaries.

Freebooter Miniatures has some nice pirate/sea themed base decoration like crabs and zombie octopusses:

Dragon Rune made some OOP Komodons=Fishmen, available a.o. here: http://www.artemisblacks.com/dragonrune/komodons.shtml

Aaah thank you all for the information! Purifier, that's really handy to know - thank you = ) pity about that mermaid model being 70mm though, it is such a nice model.

And Kroothawk, amazing links, thank you! I'm only just beginning to see how many other great quality miniatures there are out there (as opposed to games workshop) - I only found out about Reaper about a month ago, Avatars of War and Mantic just after that - but having looked through just the Hordes and Warmachine so far, Privateer Press is looking just amazing. so really, really thank you for the links! So many nice new models, so many decisions!
