So I normally play blood angels and when playing my friend who plays Chaos Space Marines and Daemons, I would just shoot the crap out of his monstrous creatures until they died. Sternguard with rapid fire poison 2 are good for this tactic.

Well I just started playing orks and I'm working on strategies to kill those MC's and so far all I can think of is using big guns with ammo runts.

Are there any tips from veteran Ork players for taking out large MC's? Or just very tough things in general?

I don't play orks but I imagine your best bet would be lootas and power klaws?

Most competitive Ork armies include lots and lots of Lootas. These are your answer to MC's. Even your Mega Armoured Nobs will get smashed to bits by AP2 CC attacks, just shoot them with Lootas from across the table.

Daemon MC are definitely a tough nut for Orks. To kill these you need AP3 shooting, which we lack, or something good in close combat, which in all honesty we lack as well.

I'd have to agree with Enceladus in that Lootas are the way to go. First ground them with shoota boyz, then overload them with S7 wounds and eventually they'll fail saves.

Just ignore any that have 2+ armour (is that possible?) or which can shenanigans their way to a 2+ cover or invulnerable.

Wow thanks guys I'm sure that will do the trick, it's actually a no brainer after your replies.

Rohansolder, the problem with power claws is fighting at initiative 1 you won't live long enough to attack.

True, but remember that Nobs in Nob squads aren't characters, so they can't be challenged. If you have a squad of Nobs (like you might if you have the AOBR orks) and some with PK, you can put the wounds on the ones with Choppas and then use the ones with Klaws to hit back (proper placement assumed). Admittedly, this requires you to USE a mob of Nobs, but given that a lot of ork players have them anyway, it's not like buying something new to use against Chaos MC.

Good point, it'd have to be a big mob though with them having instant death and the like but it is another way to do it

The only ones with the 3+ armour saves are the Blood Thirsters. Princes can purchase it for 20 Points and all of them can potentially get it if they buy a 20 point greater reward and roll a 6.

I also echo the Lootas approach. They have enough Dakka to ground the flying ones and are high enough str to put the hurt on wounding Princes, Spawns, Kairos and Be'lakor on 2s which are the most common of the Daemon MCs. Most Daemons will just have their 5++ unless there are some Grimoir Shenanigans going on, in which case you just need to focus the wielder of that accursed book.

Orkses have a good ammount of shots to pass through mc's toughness and saves. If MC's flying - it's even better. You've got lots of bigshootas on your...everything! Every truck, every battlewagon, every kopta can force a grounding test which has nice chances of wounding a MC. Then burry it in shoota bullets. Expect to deal around one wound for every 50-60 shots with a regular shoota vs t6+ MC with 3+ armor save. And the good part is that you've got one of the best armies to deal with mc's in mellee.

Lots of shootaboyz with bigshootas, lots of bigshootas on the whole. And you'll be fine. And you're not tailoring cause that's what any ork list usually has.

Don't forget, you've also got pk nobz that can reliably deal with MC's if not challenged out. Good thing is that many mc's ain't characters.

You've got Lootas! But point-to point, they're almost like shootaboyz if you shoot mc's with 3+ or better. But lootas have range! And that's a good thing cause they are less dependant on positioning and can assist your shootaboyz.

All in all, orkses don't have really huge problems vs mc's. At least i find it harder to deal with ballanced daemon lists than with a spammy flying cycrcle.

Even though the problem seems to already be solved i would like to mention that deamon princes only are tgh 5 which makes them quite scared of str 10 power klaws but then again you might die before you can swing.

edit
Just thought that if a warboss was in a large mob of boys he could get an upwards of 4 plus rerolls in challanges with the prince that combined with a cybork body actually doesn't seem to bad.
