This Heavy Trooper, the first of a 3-person squad, comes from a new collaborative duo of artists joining our roster. Helmet can be displayed in place of the head, or held in the free hand with a full portrait head. Sculpted in 1/8 scale by Mike Kime of Epic Games.

for those of you who don' fancy the GW knight but have the cash burning a hole in their pockets this $150 1/8 scale resin kit apparently weighs in at 1.2kg+

Isn't $150 a lot for 1/8 figures? Or is that normal for originals and recasters just sell them dirt cheap? Honest question, not something I know a lot about.

Short answer: $150 is normalish.

Elaborate answer:

Spoiler:
That price is entirely relative to X number of things

1) Do they need a license? That adds a lot to the cost. In the days of old (just like most small mini companies today) they used to do "NOT-whatever" to avoid licensing costs.

2) Artist and sculpt artist - the bigger the name the higher the price.

3) Number of pieces. Remember that this is handcast resin and needs silicone molds. Silicone molds deteriorate with every cast and new molds need to be made after x number of casts.
Usually that was the initial reason that "garage kits" (as they were produced by fans in the garage due to the foul smell) were limited to 50 or 100 casts.
So if the kit has a large number of pieces - more molds are needed and there are more parts that can be miscast etc.

4) Perhaps the most relative one: What are you willing to pay?

As for recasters - basically they are stealing. They don't have to pay for the sculpt or the artist nor do they care about a license. Usually they are situated in countries where the law that would protect such things can't be enforced. The price for recasts varies greatly, but as a rule - the Thai recasters on ebay do kits at 1/3 price but some are brazen enough to do full price. The quality is an absolute horror both in terms of material (usually the resin is cut with other cheap stuff and makes it brittle and overall bad and powdery) and detail. The fit and size is terrible and you get a lot of bubbles etc. There are some recasters that do a fairer quality of kits, but the price is generally not that much better at least regarding western kits. Regardless of your morals and what you think is ok the bottom line is:

The more complex a kit is (and size matters here) the bigger the price.
