I was thinking of doing a dwarf army but they are extremely popular, and I like chaos but they are the same. But I saw forge world doing chaos dwarfs, and I liked the sound of them. But I don't know what they are like when using them, I've never seen them so I have no idea what they are like. So I have come here to ask anyone who has had the army, or has even played against the and give a (as much as you can) detailed review on them, since they are forge world and will be a third more expensive than GW.

I was thinking about them yesterday cuz I just got my dorf book. They were put out RIGHT before 8th came out. They are looking old at this point in terms of rules.
You can't match them in terms of war machines. And the rune system for Dorfs is pretty awesome. You got magic, you got hobgoblins (fast fodder), and some Monstrous units. But I don't think they're as good as Dwarfs. They need to be repriced a little downward.

I agree with Rustfield. They need some tweaking for the new edition of fantasy, but they are still a still a strong army. The core dwarfs themselves are at st4 base with a 4+ armor save and ward (5+ I think) against flaming attacks. They don't have the same resolute as their non magic using cousins and are slower at pursuing and fleeing. With 9th edition this summer I can see them getting an updated army list from forge world.

You will find everything on Chaos Dwarfs on this forum, including the indie-legal fan-made lists etc:
http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/
BTW there are alternative miniatures to current FW or old GW: esp. Russian Alternative and Werewoolf Miniatures for Infantry (and later Hobgoblins).

You can find some army book reviews of the Forgeworld list on Youtube, as well as some battle reports. That might give you a better picture of the current official CD army list.

Chaos Dwarfs rock, they are everything Dwarfs sre and more. I have been a Dwarf player for about 18 years and got into Chaos Dwarfs about 4 years ago. The forge world rules are a blast. The basic chaos dwarf has the better ststs than a regular dwarf, the have hobgoblins for cannon fodder, bull centurs & wolf riders for cav, Kadi for ogre size monsters, and destroyers for huge monsters. Not to mention awsome war machines.
My army is all big hat metal from 5th ed but the FW model are good if you don't want to spend a fortune on ebay.

I love chaos dwarfs because you can run hard infantry, goblins, monstrous infantry, monsters, and warmachines. Regular dwarfs are sweet, but everything in the book is a dwarf so not enough variety for me.

My impression of Chaos Dwarfs is that they're generally a little overcosted. It's cool that you can take magic in a dwarfs army. Their warmachines aren't as good as the new dwarf book but they're still pretty damned cool. The K'daii fireborn are pretty meh but the K'daii destroyer is totally fething bent. Everything else is pretty alright.
More importantly the forgeworld models are bloody fantastic, and with the way fantasy pricing is going these days they're actually not much more expensive than a regular army. Heck, they can even be cheaper in some sense.
At the end of the day you'll win games with them and lose games with them. I don't think they're really overpowered in any sense (except the destroyer, who is bent), but if the models really get you going then I think that's the most important part. You've got to be passionate about your army, and if the minis can do that for you then go for it.

Man, the red unit looks fantastic painted up even though it's all monopose. Just a picket of red points. You should base your movement tray to complate the look.
(for reference, I'm talking of these guys)

Thanks for the complements, I was doing some serious work on them and my halfling army over the summer. Matching movement trays was on the list, but I have been distracted with Star Trek Attack Wing. So I haven't painted anything since September, but I hope to get back to the table soon.
