I have my first ever game of 40K coming up, its a 1000 point battle and I need some help making a Necron Army list that will do ok against Space Marines

I have a few models so far....

Overlord
Crypteks x 2
Warriors x 2
Annihilation Barge

I was thinking of getting the Battleforce and another barge and maybe a pack of Immortals but I am a complete noob at making a list so any input from anyone on what to do and what not to do just so I don't embarrasses myself would be a great help, I'm not expecting to win the match but I want to put up a good fight and get some understanding of the game to hopefully improve

Hmm, I just bought the codex recently myself to learn it, but I would focus on troops at least for the first few games if only to get the hang of things. Don't expect to win a lot at first, I got spanked dozens of times before my first win, and then that happened again with each new army...and edition...and sometimes hair style...but if you keep things simple at first you will learn the basics better and then when you add in fancier units later you will know how they support your troops. Good luck!

Cheers mate, I'm really looking forward to it but I will do as you say and focus on warriors, in your recommendation do you think they should be with a Necron Lord with Rez orb?

This. And welcome!! Rez orbs are important in low point games because Space Marines will own Crons in smaller skirmishes without it. The chance to rez on a 4+ as opposed to a 5+ makes Necrons silly hard to kill, which in small games is uber important. DO NOT GET LOCKED IN CC. Mindshackle Scarabs (if your dude has the option, which I think he does) is a must take. Makes your Lord downright EVIL in challenges. Did I mention DON'T GET INTO CC?
