Okay, so for some reason people keep telling is 18 inches. Torrent rule says to put the template at the end of the weapon. Or am I missing something?

The torrent rule lets you place the tear drop template 12" from the firing point (so the base, or gun on a vehicle)

Not sure on the page, just look up Torrent at the back for the relevant page number, but he's spot on. You place the thin end of the template within 12" of the weapon, and the thicker end cannot be any closer to the weapon than the thin end (so pointing away) giving effectively an 18" range if used at max length.

On the Tyrannofex this would be measured from his base rather then his gun right? Because he's a MC? But a Heldrake would measure his from his mouth as he's a vehicle? Effectively making the Heldrake have a shorter range when firing backwards?

No, Heldrakes get to ignore the vehicle restrictions when shooting because they're special and get to be just like FMCs except faster and immune to grounding tests (and the CSM FAQ says so).

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Made this post in another thread but I'll attach an image. This is how I understand it working. Note - any placement with the fat end closer to the model than the narrow end is illegal, thus you have a 180 degree arc of torrent after the initial twelve inches.
