Just had a 1200pt battle against my brothers Imperial knights. It was the fisrt game we have had using super heavies so it was quite interesting.

The battlefield

we played on a 4x4 cityfight board with ruins, craters and rubble.

The Mission / Deployment

we played the emperors will mission with dawn of war deployment

The outcome
It was actually a surprisingly close game. The imperial knights got the first turn but due to the fact all I had deployed was 2 land raiders and my Daemon Prince he failed to destroy anything. then in my first turn my daemon prince charged and took down one of his knights. Turn two he charged a land raider and destroyed it, also took out my Daemon Prince giving him slay the warlord. My terminators failed to do any real damage with their meltas and were easily handled by his Ap1 large blasts and destroyer CC. The part that really shocked me was when my Heldrake destroyed the second knight with Vector strikes! Overall it was a very fun but scary game. Facing nothing but super heavies is very intimidating and I think most armies will struggle to take them down, the lascannons on my land raiders did sweet [MOD EDIT - Do not try to work around the expletive filter. Thanks - Alpharius] and so did the terminators.

The final score was:

Imperial Knights 4VPs
(objective held 3VPs)
(Slay the warlord 1VP)

Chaos Space Marines 5VPs
(First Blood 1VP)
(Through attrition, Victory 4VPS)

My opponent debates that the "Through Attrition, Victory" score does not count as he has not taken the knights from the escalation rulebook and that they are NOT Lord of war units. My argument is that those rules cover ALL super heavies that are being played in standard 40k, including Imperial Knights. If anyone knows what is correct feel free to chime in

It was a great game and I look forward to more games against super heavies

Thankyou for reading

For now, I side with the folks that say Through attrition doesn't apply to the knights.

If they were in the escalation book I might go there, but since it doesn't fill a lord or war spot in an army... I'm not sure how you can apply those rules to it.

It tells you what rules it takes from those sections and I didn't see through attrition as one of them.

Nice to see more of these reps though.

actually it is 1 with a base coat, still needs highlighting, transfers and weathering. and 2 that are just based in silver ready for the green and black base coats

And I 100% agree Through attrition should not be counted when destroying knights as we were not playing escalation, we weren't using any lords of war and It doesnt say to use it anywhere in the white dwarf. with a bit of luck I will have my codex tomorrow and it will be all good

OK

As much as I think you should get extra VPs for "Through attrition, victory," currently RAW you do not.

Yeah I believe the Through Attrition, Victory is for HP and wounds off lords of war units, not just any old superheavies.

What rules state you get 'Through Attrition, Victory' VPs? Looks like a pretty severe beating by the IKs.

That victory should've been a 4:1 loss. Just saying.

Now the codex is out I will admit defeat, unfortunately the Through Attrition, Victory rules do not apply to Imperial Knights... that is goint to make them a much much tougher army to come up against... interesting

Thats stupidity on par with the shenanigans which allow a Commander to join Riptides as a 'unit'

I bet you guys don't allow escalation either.

So your saying that 2 knights with the same amount of hull points as my Stompa and follow the same damage rules as my Stompa don't have the same negative as my Stompa???
DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's exactly right.

But that's what GW has done by saying "here's escalation, which introduces superheavies"

Followed by

"here's some superheavies that are not part of escalation".

The 1-3 knights should be a lord of war entry by itself. "You can attach 1-3 knights to your army as a single Lord of War slot".

Rules writing is SO EASY I don't understand why they can't seem to balance it.

To those with the codex - are they scoring when they're an army unto themselves, or are knights ALWAYS scoring? That's something I've been curious about.

They only count as scoring if taken as primary detachment, as allies, they do not score

You can also take a bunch of mech boyz and repair the stompa up to full HP every turn...the IK cannot. The transport capacity is pretty huge.

Can they repair while embarked on the stompa?

Admittedly, they can only take 2 mekboys, right? Unless you're doing 2k in which case you can take 4, and that's increasing the cost of the stompa, effectively.

That's Big Meks you're thinking about. They can also repair.
Loota and Burna Boy mobs can take Meks as upgrades.
