Hey all,

I recently picked up a DV box to get back into the hobby after a 10+ year break, i'm almost done with the dark angels side of things and i was wondering what route i should go with the CSM.

I found out that the CSM are actually intended to be from the Crimson Slaughter legion. But do i have other options to take? I thought about just going Black Legion but i would want to go somewhere more exotic.
Like a nurgle army, but i can't really find how to go about that or if it's even possible. I find that the Chaos side of things can get really complicated.

Thanks for any tips and advice in any case!

You can paint the models from Dark Vengeance whatever color you want! I painted mine blue! Not every member of your nurgle army has to have a Mark of Nurgle, nor does every model with the Mark of Nurgle have to have it's guts spilling out! And Black Legion doesn't discriminate against worshipers of any of the Chaos Gods! They just want your loyalty and for you to kill for Abaddon! Happy gaming!

Obviously you can paint them however you want. Slap on a green paint scheme and you've got nurgle. Add in greenstuff and other conversions if you really want to. Just out of the DV box, give each unit ION and you're set.

From there, add in plague marines, allied Nurgle Daemons, etc. Boom, you've got Nurgle. Replace with the appropriate mark and units for each god.

The DV box set is Crimson slaughter in canon, but that doesn't matter in the least for what you want to do with your dudes.

Edit: What Kronk said.

So basicly i'm free to do whatever? I can even mix and match? It just all depends on the marks? When i looked up nurgle stuff i just saw units with heavy conversions and stuff, and that kinda scared me off, since i've never done modelling and conversion stuff really.
But i find Nurgle the most interesting god. I also found out about the Death Guard legion and that seemed intresting also.

(oh and what does ION mean?)

What kronk said. I also have to give him kudos for painting DV chosen in a way that doesn't make me want to vomit in anger over the design of the mini.

It looks like they took a regular CSM model, slathered it in superglue and then dunked it head-first into a pile of random spikes, horns, and bitz.

Way too unfocused, and WAY too much detail, and in the wrong way. More does not always equal better. Something they could have learned for the hellbrute and DV chaos lord model.

I just looked at your conversion for the hellbrute and was impressed how much better you made it look. And yeah i see where you are coming from on the design of some of the DV chaos units, overly complicated stuff. Makes me afraid to start painting them actually.

Couldn't agree more.

For the OP: I just painted the Chosen in a scheme designed to look like a mockery of the Dark Angel scheme. You can paint them however you like.

Gathering the Informations.

The Chaos and Black Legion books have some good ideas for how to incorporate some more color into a Black Legion force, if that's your desire.

Remember that the Black Legion has a ton of different "mini warbands" that are part of the group, with cults and things of that nature being part of the Legion at large.

Something you could do is have your Plague Marines wearing predominantly green or black, but with a bit of the opposite color marking an arm or leg and having the Eye of Horus on the model somewhere.

Sure they could be Renegades, and so not all mutated, because they're just getting started (even works well with their few numbers) If you go Nurgle you can convert your Cultists into Zombies (your first foray, just some grey and green highlights )
