What do you guys think of these list at 1850? Can it hold its own against the big boys

Abaddon -265
3 Termicide -112 (combi plasma and power mauls)
5 Chosen - 175(rhino, dirgecaster, 4 plasma)
5 Chosen - 175(rhino, dirgecaster, 4 plasma)
3 Maulerfiend x 3 - 375

Herald of khorne - 155 (juggernaut, icon of wrath)
20 Daemonettes - 180
19 Daemonettes - 171
15 Flesh hounds - 240

Or

Abaddon - 265
3 Termicide -112
5 Csm - 145(rhino dc, 2 plasma)
5 Csm - 145(rhino dc, 2 plasma)
3 Maulerfiend - 375
2 Heldrakes - 340

Herald of khorne - 110 (juggernaut, axe of khorne)
11 Daemonettes -99
11 Daemonettes -99
10 Flesh hounds - 160

Abaddon deepstrikes with his retinue of 3 termies, the daemons, rhinos and
Maulerfiends rush upfield. Key is target saturation.

Would the list with the drakes be more viable, or that with more daemons?

Cheers

Abaddon is not popular because hes a terminator hero, but CSM terminators are really bad at assault as they have no access to thunder hammers, storm shields, feel no pain, or land raiders with more than 10 capacity. Basically he has no synergy and even if he did AP2 is plentiful these days. I'm not saying don't run him, that's just the thoughts people have against him is all.

While running 5 chosen with 8 plasma shots in rapid fire is awesome, at the end of the day you have only 3+ saves on these 33 point models. For instance, should a vindicator get a direct hit on these guys, you will lose lots of points and lots of troops. In other words, you have to create space for them.

Also, if you want to get the most out of these guys, you will want to get into rapid fire range. It might not be easy to rapid fire for a turn or two and then get to a capture point before the game ends or they die. In other words, scoring units should be built for scoring, not getting into assault range for a few turns and then getting to a point maybe turn 6

Running him in a blob of cultists has worked for me before.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

I am going to share with you what worked for me.

Abaddon, 8 chosen, no weapons, maybe MoK, ride in a landraider.

Termicide, combimeltaguns, purchase dedicated lr but its for aba n chosen.

8 chosen, 4 flamers, rhino, combi meltagun
Or 2x5 chosen with a single ac
20 cultists

Choose spawns or drakes for fa

3 maulerfiends or 3 preds with side lascannons

If only we had hurricane bolter lr with hi capacity, then i would use 6 lr, 3 termicide, 6x10 cultist

Termi can get fnp by MoS, IoE.

Ababomb

Abaddon, Max termi, MoS, IoE, pick all pow maul or sword.

Dont use chosen.

Maybe spawns with MoN

Oblitz with MoN

I run Abaddon in a Land Raider with 4 Chaos Terminators, Mark of Slaanesh, and an Icon of Excess. Since Abaddon ALSO has MoS, he gains the FnP from the Icon.

Abaddon is a beast in combat. I think he was a little more flexible in 5th, but choosing wisely you can do some serious damage with him. I would take him against any army boss.

I also like him because he makes my best friend/regular opponent the bed

In the embrace of great Chaos, I am no longer afraid, for with its power and favor, I shall become the embodiment of that which I once most feared.....Death

Chaos Space Marines: W50, L23, D17
Warriors of Chaos: W15, L2, D0
CSM 6th Edition: W19, L6, D3
CSM 7th Edition: W17, L2, D2
Kill Team: W2, L0, D0

Ok thanks for the suggestions, I don't want to run him in cultist blobs as I want to maintain a certain level of fluff in the army

Is there any point in running chosen squads in rhinos?

Not really. Rhino's can fire two ports a turn, which regular 10 man CSM can get for cheaper, and Plague Marines get at 5 models.

Take abaddon in a LR with 4 Terminators. Build that squad to taste. Include a dirge caster. The fluffiest would be DS, but it's a bad option for assault troops.

Abby is one of the best 3 in a challenge available, so anyone he runs into is basically toast. He can mow through tarpits, smash vehicles, but it's a large point sink for him and the Landraider and squad, and many games he just wont kill that much stuff. Knock out that LR and he's super slow.

How about a "jam as many uncompetitive things as you can into a list until it becomes competitive" list?

Abaddon
MoK Lord with Terminator Armor and AoBF

2x 8 Berzerkers, 6 chain axes
15 Chaos Cultists

2x Heldrake

2x Chaos Land Raider with Dirge Casters and Dozer Blades
Dakkafiend (2x Hades Autocannons)

Could it work? It's shooting is pretty much atrocious (since the Dakkafiend will probably be focusing on AA) but it would be pretty good at objective games, being able to wrench objectives from whatever was holding them. And if you focus on destroying one Land Raider, the other one comes to kill you anyway.
