Hello everyone! as of a few days ago a few friends talked me into looking into fantasy. I must say after seeing a few games and how it is played man am I hooked! It all seems very fun, and the army that really caught my eye is beast men ( because i love just about every model) Being competitive is not my biggest worry with this post. So with out further adieu...

I have looked up a lot of different army lists and 1k seems like the "starting point level"

My big question is if anyone could help with creating a low ish point Minotaur army. I bought the doombull, loved my paint scheme and put a lot of thought into it and an army themed this way would just be too cool! Not to mention fun to paint!
From what i can tell fielding a Doombull is unrealistic in 1k points I assume, so would using a Gorebull as my "leader" be the way to go?
Also I would think I would need some type of magic... so that being said I am essentially looking for a good starting army idea based around Minotaur sized models, while keeping the point cost as low as possible (to keep my buying/painting load smaller to start ;D)

THANK YOU! for all of your help I look forward to more fantasy talks with everyone on here at dakkadakka.

1,000 points is one of those really tough point levels where many armies simply don't have the room to buy functional units.

Most people tend to agree that 2400, 2500, or 2999/3000 is the "optimal" level for games. So if you're just starting, I'd suggest building with those levels in mind and using these smaller games as a staging ground to test units you'll eventually use in larger games.

As for the rest of your questions, I'll admit that I don't know enough about the beastmen book to give you good advice. I can, however, suggest that you head over to the Herdstone - the Beastmen-specific forum. There tends to be a far higher quality of advice on the army-specific forums than on the general forums. Especially Dakka.

You might want to try and put a post in the introductions forum there. If I am not mistaken that is why you are getting the error message.

As to building a 1k point list well for a mino army you will have issues as a Doombull is close to the 25% cap for lords. I would also recommend that if you do go with a Doombull and Minotaur army that you use Tuskgor Chariots for Core. They fill core nicely and tend to fit better with Minobus list at higher point values than Gor or Ungor.

As for a list I would go with:

Doombull- Heavy Armor

Gorebull- BSB, Armor of Destiny, Additional Hand Weapon

3 x Tuskgor Chariots

1 x 5 Ungor Raiders

3x Minos, standard

Razorgor

Good luck

Alright so Im not going to lie, beastmen are one of the worst armies that are out there. That being I use my beastmen and I do very well with them. They just dont have a lot of answers to the curent meta. Minataurs as you know cant be core. The best thing you can do for your core is 49 gor with two hand weapons, and you put a bsb war gor in there with the beast banner.

Doombull is best taken with
Gnareld Hide
Heavy Armour
Ramhorn Helm
Dawnstone
and the Sword of Swift slaying

That give you a 1+ armour save and you re roll misses, and for every armour save you make gives you an extra attack! The sword lets you go first, and in most cases re roll to hit.

As far as a caster I recoment always taking Beasts. Wistens Wildform is one of the best spells in the game, and cuse of Anrahere, amber spear, and transformation are nothin to sneeze at.

1000 points dosent really work well for any army, beastmen exspechaly. You really need to go to 2000+ to start making them work.
If you have any more questions just let us know!

Thank you for all of the pointers guys! I knew going into it that beastmen are outdated and not very strong currently. That being said, it is not much of a concern of mine. Thanks especially for the doombull load out as I will probably test that in larger games when I get the points. The reason I want to go with a 1000 point list is simply because it is cheap and less to paint starting out, opposed to buying it all and probably losing notivistion to paint. So that is why I am goin with lower point costs. If I end up become set in stone on this Minotaur idea... I might concise doing a 1k ogre list, but using Minotaurs. Just with a bunch of iron guts and what not.

Ogres would be more competitive as its a newer codex (I know competitiveness doesn't matter) but BM codex should be coming out soon(ish) and be very cool, so I would stick with original idea and show people at your FLGS how great BM can be!

On the note of core, as has been said chariots can wreak units with combined charges, all the impact hits take their toll, even more so on the newer elves/De/empire where squishy T3 and As5+ is useless!

Good luck and have fun!

That Doombull build is a fething beast, btw. The protection of a 1+RR is not to be scoffed at. Even against S6 it's the equivalent of a 2+ save. All those high-attack-output units that are terrifying to your other unarmoured units the Doombull laughs at, and actually WANTS to fight since every hit is effectively a new attack. And every round of combat he wins just makes him even stronger.

He's got weaknesses, of course. Pin him in a challenge, or anywhere else that the attacks against him are limited, and he's liable to fail to do enough damage to overcome SCR. Anything that can bypass his armour (like HKB or the Obsidian Blade) will do him in as well. Not to mention that it isn't hard to drop his unit below the point where he gets LoS! saves (you need 5 models, not including other characters or champions).

Even still...he's a complete monster that most people will have serious difficulties dealing with.

Thank you for the encouragement, Still thinking of picking up a codex for ogres. Mainly to have a way to field all minotaurs in a 1k game. (aka iron guts and bulls).

I played against an army like that once. The guy was using Ogre rules but all the models were converted Minotaurs. Even his Mournfang Cavalry were "Minotaur Chariots". If you're worried about the competitiveness of Beastmen but love the models then that might be a good option.

Honestly, I would avoid doing the "counts as Ogres" list. Beastmen are cool and nobody sees them much. Ogres are fething everywhere, and they all have substantially the same build. 1-2 ironblasters, 0-1 stonehorn, 1-2 units of 4 mournfang, 2 sabretusks as chaff, 6-8 leadbelchers, Slaughtermaster as general with level 4, a hero with the hell heart, divide core by number of ironguts you can buy. Place army on table, push army forward, fight combat, rinse repeat.

If you're looking for inspiration, Oncebitten360 on Youtube used to play an all-minotaur beastmen army. He seemed to do fairly well with it.

I have 2 games with them under my belt. I dig Beastmen they aren't subtle and that's awesome. The Doombull I used in both games was a terror, Damn near unkillable 1+ save but I take mine with a ward save 4+ instead of the re-rollable. Too much magic out there I was fearing. It hasn't been an issue yet but the Ramhorn gives him an immediate attack for every successful ARMOR(not ward) save. I was tanking wounds with him against VC and then against OnG.
Both opponents were blown away by him. He costs 353 in that build I used, People under estimate them and I see why our Core units go running with a stiff wind. Hell Bestigors go running if they aren't supported right.
In both games Minotaurs have been the bee knees. I'm new though with a whopping 2 games under my belt (I'm a 40k guy) so take it with a huge grain of salt. They are fun as hell to play though. Great chaff units in raiders and razorgors, If you do it right you can control the board. I recommend 3 razorgors(separate single units) and 2 units of raiders. Both times I have owned movement.
I am chalking that up to my buddies thinking "He's new take it easy" like 40k doesn't translate at all to WFB.
Last thing I was looking to play Beastmen small as well (like 1500) it doesn't work. List building alone told me the "bigger the better". This book doesn't allow for smaller games sadly.

I admit The doom bull model is my favorite I have ever seen, simple but bad-ass. It is also one of my favorite paint jobs so hearing all these doom bull war stories truly does sway me. The thing is though running a counts as ogre list is the only way to do pure Minotaur list.

ALSO! I know this could change a lot, but lets say for decently local friendly tournaments. Would a Minotaur/ogre army even be something that is legal?
