Hey guys,

I recently started a commission painting service and was unsure as to what the general rules and etiquette was for promoting my business on Dakka. I am not sure if people are allowed to really have a "here's my business check it out" post as this is not a site designed for sales etc. If I want to promote my new service and site what is the best way to go about doing so on dakka dakka? Should I just post in the painting and modeling, P&M blogs or what?

I have already made a small submission to get my name in on the Dakka Swap Shop page but I am unsure if I am allowed to do anything else. Just looking for a quick answer here. Thanks for you help

Dakka is for the most part very friendly to commission painters.

Use [Commission] in thread titles in the painting and modelling section. Don't make a new thread for every member of a unit, or every unit in a particular army. Don't use large, intrusive sigs in your profile. Keep it simple.

If you want to post threads for WIP do so (but not for everything, that gets dull fast), for showcase stuff go right ahead.

Do put your name down in the swap shop forum.

Don't expect an easy ride if you're not up to scratch. There are some very professional services on here. This kind of applies to both business and outright painting skill. Do your homework and all is good. This kind of boils down to 'be aware of what you're promoting, and what you're getting yourself in to'. Generally though, you'll get advice and critique, not insults.

I'll start with probably the best advice i can give before seeing anything; Do make sure your presentation is up to par- you need a tripod, backsheet or light box, good lighting and the ability to edit pictures (resize, adjust white balance, crop, brightness/contrast). Think of online posts as a shop window, and these as the skills you need to dress it.

Thanks a lot

I have a website up and running for my services that was finished a few weeks ago. I am trying to get some simple commissions for rep-building at the moment but this is a part-time venture. I take it seriously of course, but it is not going t be my main source of income.

I understand that I cannot compete with the array of absolutely stunning painters but I don't intend to. I want my service to be fast, cheap, and presentable under my current painting style.

I have used an HD camera and editing software (photoshop) for my pics thus far. My gf who is a great phtotographer is going to bring her camera soon so we can have a model photography day with a good light box and backdrop etc. For now, they look good enough to convey what I want though.
