Which special weapons do you prefer to give to your Dark Eldar Reavers?

Heat Lances, Reavers are the only effective way to get these into your army (No, Scourges don't count) and every army could use a bit of Melta. Blasters can be found more cost effectively elsewhere and unless you are blade vaning every turn (usually not worth it) then the blade vane upgrades aren't worth it. On the plus side, a melta explosion is far more satisfying then a blaster stun locking a vehicle.

I also agree heat lances. With the mobility of dark eldar, there is usually no issue getting them into range, and with lance and melta you will penetrate any armor on a 7(on 2 dice).
Cluster caltrops can be fun if you plan on bladvaning every turn, but the normal bladevanes are usually sufficient. A protip is to turbo boost these bikers last, after all your shooting. Have them bladevane over a severely weakened unit so they hopefully finish them and get a pain token.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Isn't it effective to not take any upgrades and just turbo boost around bladevaning w/ cluster caltrops?

Personally I would take the Blaster cause its more flexible. In Melta Range you got a 38,8% Chance to penetrate AV12 or better with a Heat Lance and just 22,2% with a Blaster. You also got +2 instead of +1 for the demage result. So in Melta Range on an AV12+ Heat Lances are fine, but outside Melta Range the best thing you can get is a glancing hit. Youre bikes might be able to get into Melta Range ASAP, but they might not survive the following turn of the enemy, cause they have to abandon their cover for 3 Melta shots at best, which are no autokill if the enemy vehicle has a coversave (a moved skimmer for example). With a blaster your options to stay close to LOS blocking objects while shooting at the enemy are much bigger, so you can hide during the assault phase with youre 2d6 extra movement. But there is another advantage of the blaster. You can Insta-Kill multi wound T4 enemies (Tyranid Warriors, Wraith, Broadsides, Crisis, Marine characters etc.) . Thats the reason I would take the blaster over the heat Lance. Dalymiddleboro wrote:Isn't it effective to not take any upgrades and just turbo boost around bladevaning w/ cluster caltrops? No it isnt, cause you give up to many options. Reavers are a real nice flexible squad and bladevaning is just one of their tricks. If you just TurboBoost them around, youre enemy can adapt to it and you will loose them really quick. The great thing about them is, that they can nearly harm every unit on the board if played properly without any chance for your opponent to predict what they are going to do next. And therefore he will hate them

Heat lances definitely. I usually find the higher strength of the blaster irrelevant with all the poisoned shooting in the army(and all the other boasters I take). Sometimes the cheaper cost lets me squeeze in another body or upgrade elsewhere.
