Is this OK for miniatures work?

Yes, almost identical to what I use.

If you are just doing some small size (i.e. paper clip) you can also just put a mini drill bit into an xacto knife handle.

Echoing what others have said - it is near identical to the one I have been using for almost 20 years. If you are doing lots of drilling, the swivel top is pretty key.
