hey hey. the following is an exercise in out of the box, meta be darned list building. no formations (i don't want to be too reliant on them and not be able to play one in a tourney), no Flyrants (because i get it - everyone already owns two, but yawn ('') i think this list might perform well - heck, if i'm lucky, i'll be able to test it this weekend. against tau even.

HQ
Tyranid Prime w/ Lash Whip & Bonesword, the Miasma Cannon, Adrenal Glands & Toxin Sacs = 195

Elites
3 Hive Guard w/ Impaler Cannons = 165
2 Venomthropes = 90
Zoanthrope = 50

Troops
Tervigon A = 195
Tervigon B = 195
30 Termigants w/ 20 Spinefists & 10 Devourers = 160
30 Termigants w/ 20 Spinefists & 10 Devourers = 160
5 Tyranid Warriors w/ Barbed Strangler = 160

Fast Attack
20 Gargoyles = 120
20 Gargoyles = 120

Heavy Support
3 Biovores = 120
2 Carnifexen w/ Adrenal Glands = 270

so that's the list, and here's the plan:

Tervigon A hangs out in my backfield, the Gants she spawns either rush off to fill gaps or to the next closest objective. Also, she babysits the Biovores.

everything else shuffles on up to midfield. Venoms hide behind the Fexen to shroud me in shroudedness. Gargoyles hustle forward to blind and tie things up if possible, the Gants do this as well - just less fast and with no threat to my enemies eyesight. The Prime rides with the Warriors for a bit to buff their BS, but will peel off and join the Fexen when combat is looking like a lock (or when enough Warriors are dead for it not to be fun for him anymore). The Hive Guard and Zooey find a nice place to hide out of sight, and Tervigon B pushes off to a midfield objective and plays like A above.

so yep. feel free to read, digest and regurgitate all over this thread. like it or not, i hope it at least stirs your grey matter.

I think this list lacks both the firepower, and speed to be competitive against other good lists.

Your best bet is to hope you catch you opponent unprepared for a hoard army. My local meta always includes a selection of flamers to fry Gaunts. My regular Tau opponent brings 2 deepstriking crises teams (1 suit, and 2 suits) loaded down with flamers for just such an occasion.

One minor suggestion. You are overloaded with troops in a big way. If you ran Shrikes instead of Warriors, and gave them rending Claws, you would have a little more speed without losing anything.

Also, because of the wonky spore mine rules, I would break you biovores up into as many squads as you have FOC space for.

I agree about the lack of speed. I count 4 Synapse, and 8 things that need it. To my eye that makes for a fatal vulnrability to Synapse hunting. At 2000 points everybody will have enough answers to kill off the Synapse pretty quickly

If you could boost up the Synapse, and add some back field threats you might be much better off. Maybe a second Prime, in a big blob can Outflank? Its a start anyway....

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER
