How do,

I've started an all metallic paint scheme for my marines (minotaurs) I have recently thought about what varnish I will use at the end stage without dulling the paintwork to much. I put all my varnishes through the airbrush but can anyone recommend a finish that best suits metallic models?

Cheers

Liam

Your using Matt varnish right?

Gloss or i think Satin should return most of the shine.

For metallic paint, satin or nothing.

If you cleaned, properly primed your model, and refrained from touching it during painting (which deposits oils on the model), there is no real need to varnish it for "protection," even for gaming purposes.

Here is so good reading on the subject: http://arcanepaintworks.blogspot.com/2013/11/varnish-lacquer-dullcote-and-chips-oh-my.html

Legends! I was thinking satin but wanted to get an opinion on varnish choice before I dull them down to much using matt...

I've always painted stealthy matted armour so this is a challenge to step out of my norm... Thanks again!

I'd run with satin, but if it kills it too much go back and hit it with gloss.

What I used to do was gloss for protection, then matt for general looks, then carefully paint gloss on the metals, jewels and so on to make them stand out well.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
