Hello, first post. I've looked around and this seems to be the right place. I've painted miniatures for about a year, i'm getting better at it and have painted them from multiple armies. I figure I would just paint and paint while I try to decide which army I would like to play, well a year later I think its time to finally make a decision.

I haven't narrowed down too much as who I want to play, for one reason the space marines have a lot of interesting factions to choose from, and I keep going back and forth which I want to play as. I do want to be a space marine player(Which can also include Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Space Wolves.) That narrows it down a little bit.

I also want to respect the fluff, which I know a little about from reading various articles on the lexi. I think the style i would enjoy playing and furthermore painting would be troop spam. I like the idea of having tons of units on the board and moving them around in different ways. Even when I used to play RTS games on the computer, i'd always just spam tons and tons of units pretty much forgoing vehicles. Which hopefully narrows the choice as well.

I guess the last thing to consider would be learning curve, I am not sure if some of those armies are really hard to get the grasp of for the beginner, or even how much of a curve it would be, so i'll put that low on the priority list.

Again any suggestion is welcomed, and I thank you in advance for taking the time!

Well for troop spam. I think Blood Angels could be the way to go. For a survivable troop list try something like this:

Libby w/ PA, Force Axe, Wings of Sanguinius, Shield of Sanguinius

3x 10 man Assault squad w/ 2x Meltas in each squad with a Sang Priest w/ JP in each squad.

Well thats less than 1000 points for 34 men. Thats pretty good in my books.

Hope this helps.

Infantry Heavy Space Marines... Huh, that's a new one.

I'd have to agree with Robbo on the Blood Angels. 10 man Assault teams with 2-3 Infernus pistols can counter 90% of the issues on the board and are rather cost efficient (only 235 points for 3 meltas and an assault heavy team) and mobile(12").

Basically what these guys are saying. I've played against Space Wolves with alot of numbers on the board too(Alot for space marines) Goodluck with whatever you choose.

Make sure whatever you pick is something you like the look and the fluff of. Win or lose youll enjoy yourself

That Blood Angels list sounds pretty cool, I think I am going to give it a try. Also looks like a decent starter army until I get the hang of it.

Ok so that seems like a very viable one for 1k. What if I wanted to do 1.5k or 2.0k? If I have to add some vehicles thats ok, but I would like the bare minimum.

Well, for 1.5k. Add a Fragrioso dread in a DP and a Stormraven.

For 2k. Add 5x Assault Termies w/ 3x Th&SS + 2x LC in a LRC

Alright, starting to put the army together. managed to get an amazing deal on ebay for a bunch of Blood Angels and even the codex. So even if a new one comes out pretty soon, I still won't feel too bad about it. So ive been reading over it and trying to figure out the points for that first army presented to me, and this is what I came up with.

Libarian w/pa, force axe, wings of Sanguinius, shield of sanguinius 100 pts
10 man assault squad 2/ 2x melta, 1x Infernus pistol for SGT 225 pts
10 man assault squad 2/ 2x melta 1x Infernus pistol for SGT 225 pts

Sanguinary Priest w/jump pack 75 pts
Sanguinary Priest w/jump pack 75 pts
Sanguinary Priest w/jump pack 75 pts

1000 Points

Any other suggestions, or anything I might of missed or just made a mistake on?

Congrats on the good deal!

I think your list is a very good start. I would drop one of the Sanguinary Priests to pay for a Power Fist for each Sergeant, though. Otherwise you can expect to get stuck in combat against high toughness units (Wraithlords, Daemon Princes, etc) for a long time.
