Most matches go: kill, die, kill die, kill, kill, die, die... etc.
Regardless of skill it just becomes a slug fest where a noob picks you off after you duke it out with a player before hand.
Pretty much the prime reason you should move in a group, or if you really want to go solo hunting, play something with camouflage.
@Topic
Probably the first "shooter" I actually like, and surprisingly, rock at. I've purchased an Assault as my first own Mech (As a lot of people do, its the cheapest one after all) and when I last checked, my average K/D was 3 to 1.
The Game is really fun, and actually rewards cunning and tactics, especially stuff like Flanking or Ambushing.THe F2P system also seems really fair, you can buy almost everything expect a bunch of cosmetics with regular credits. The Shopcurrency is called "Meteor Credits" and as usual in such a model, it allows to skip a lot of grind if you want a certain Mech or Upgrade early. There are also a bunch of Packs avaible on Steam, where you get a bunch of Mechs, a few Credits and depending on which pack, Boosts and Emblems to get going. Seems like a pretty neat Deal,
imho.
Some general tips fro people starting out:
- Never move alone, except maybe you're specifically playing an Ambsuher or Camouflage Mech. Even the "Tanks" will get torn to shreds if outnumbered. Either play with Buddies or try to stick to your dudes.
- As a Tank, try to waltz right in there and get focused, so your mates can kill the Enemies while they're busy trying to kill you. Tanks are a tad to slow for any fancy Flanking Tactics, so you should generally just try to find a direct way to the Frontline and then abuse your fat healthbar to get a metric fethton of assists. I dont see this class getting a lot of kills, since you lack the burst damage to finish off fleeing Mechs. But i've seen a lot of Tanks get MVP-Award simply by refusing to die even once.
- Assaults or other offensive Melee-Classes should also stick to the team, but dont try to charge in frontally. I've had most success by following my mates to the Front, and once i've had a few markers on my Radar, i'd make a Beeline to either attack their flank or their rear. If you do it right, your Burst Damage while tear down one or two Enemies before they have time to even turn around. As gossipmeng mentioned it tough, you NEED to move after an engagement, since you will pop up on the Radar for a few seconds for everyone nearby. Try to use corners to run away, to break line of sight.
- Havent played Snipers yet, and apart from killstealing, they dont seem to do a whole lot. They can be cool to ofer Firesupport on Capture Points, or to finish off fleeing Enemies, but they're utterly boned if engaged directly, and are prone to overheating, making them sitting ducks and the favorite target of Predators.
- And a general hint for dodging. Use the strafe as much as possible, the Turorial makes it seem like its only meant to dodge Rockets or other Explosives, but since most Enemies have to aim their machine guns manually, you can dodge a LOT of incoming fire by strafing a lot. Also never neglect jumping and hovering. I've won a lot of Duels by jumping suddenly, and then either hover over the other guy, or vanish on a platform above to get a new angle. Most people expect you to either strafe, run away, or go down, not up. Similiarly, if someone jumps over your head, run past beneath them and then Press Shift + S to do the quick turn, and continue your barrage.
- In Siege Mode, while the Anti-Air Base does the most Damage, you can also shoot enemy Battleships with your Mech. It only rewards one XP once the Ship goes down tough, and should generally only be done if the situation is dire, or you didnt get the badge for it yet. Also, since there's no Tutorial telling you this: In Siege Mode, you collect Energy (The green stuff) from Collectors in the field, or fallen Enemies. You can gather up to 200 units, trackable in the bottom right. You can deliver this Energy to your base, where you spawned. Eventually, this will power up a Battleship that attacks the Enemy base. Once either your
BS or their
BS started, you should try to capture the Anti-Air Base on the Map, to either shoot their Ship down, or keep your Ship from being shot. I was a bit confused on my first few matches, since noone really explains how it works.
