Recently, I posted a 1500 pt Dark Eldar list for a summer tournament. Upon realizing that Dark Eldar have essentially no anti-air options outside of Razorwings and Void Ravens (which I am not taking in favour of Ravagers), I'm exploring options in allies, specifically Eldar as they are Battle Brothers and have a few anti-air options.I've been toying around with three possible lists and I need the Dakka Community to help me decide ...

Eldar Allies #1
HQ (105)
1) Farseer: Singing Spear

TROOPS (120)
1) 10x Rangers

FAST ATTACK (180)
1) 1x Crimson Hunter

FORTIFICATION (100)
Aegis Defence Line (50): Quad-Gun (50)

The most dedicated anti-air of all the lists. Rangers sit on home objective with ADL while Farseer mans the Quad Gun and casts Doom and Guide all the live long day.



Eldar Allies #2
HQ (95)
1) Autarch: Fusion Gun, Eldar Jet Bike

TROOPS (210)
1) 5x Dire Avengers
- Wave Serpent: Holo-Fields, Twin-linked Bright Lance, Shuriken Cannon

FAST ATTACK (195)
1) 1x Crimson Hunter
- Crimson Hunter Exarch: Night Vision, Marksman's Eyes

A more mobile Eldar Allies that sacrifices the Quad Gun for a Wave Serpent to support my Venoms and an Autarch to help with getting the Crimson Hunter on when I need it.

1) Autarch: Fusion Gun, Eldar Jetbike

1) 5x Eldar Jetbike

A variant on #2 that offers mobility with the Jetbikes and also more Lance spam to support my Ravagers.

For reference, my Venom Spam list looks something like this:

Archon with toys
1x Blasterborn unit on Venom with 2x Splinter Cannons
4x Dark Eldar Warrior Squads on Venom with 2x Splinter Cannons
2x Ravagers

I think the best choices are jetseer/serpent/WW(3). That's expensive. If you can't make that fit, I'd go with however many bikes you can fit instead of the serpent. The jetseer is better than the Autarch. Especially in a dakka list. He could also always get lucky and roll Scrier's Gaze(you will always get at least 1 shot at it, assuming you want Prescience). 24 TL'd S6 shots will put the hurt on most flyers and are better at engaging other targets as well. Shred light/medium tanks and skimmers, massacre hordes and MCs.

I know that War Walkers are considered a fairly decent investment, but, statistically, twin-linked Scatter Lasers would really only take off 1 hull point from a Heldrake or a Vendetta per turn. If anything I would keep the Crimson Hunter in the list and build around that, which is why the other armies opted for the Autarch instead of the Farseer to manipulate reserve rolls.

I used to advocate Crimson Hunter Exarchs until today. My paper plane got the jump on a Helldrake and knocked it out of the sky. Next turn his other Helldrake came in and vector struck it out of the sky. Sure it could have been prevented with more careful positioning; but if you aren't going to take advantage of the Vector Dancer USR by getting behind a 12/12/10 flyer, what's the point?! You want to play them aggressively, but you often can't. It's a real glass cannon. Something I can't justify at 180pts!

I voted for 3, but I also like 2....neither are perfect, it really depends on how much you want the AA.

A crimson hunter is fine naked, take the exarch if you are worried, but no powers are required(night vision is basically useless, marksman's eye rarely comes up). You could take a farseer for the support powers and hope the dice favor you in your hunter's role, but if you want the autarch and the hunter I would go this route.

Autarch w/fusion gun(maybe a banshee mask and scorpion chainsword with extra points)

5 Avengers in a wave serpent with TL scatter lasers, a shuricannon and holo fields

Crimson hunter(exarch or not, your call).

This brings a very solid eldar ally, with reserve modification and lots of general support. The spare points can be dumped into your DE

Neither nor. I'd consider
Jetseer
5 DA w/ Serpent (tl scatterlaser, shuricannon, holofield)
2 Warwalkers (dual scatterlasers)

I personally like list #1 because it's cool and doesn't have a serpent in it.
