I've just ordered an Archon and Incubi to form the start of a DA army. Whilst the Archon and Incubi are not the most competitive HQ, I do like the models.
I hope to make them the centre of a venom spam army along these lines:

The Archon has a lot of points spent on his wargear, I would like to keep the shadowfield, but the other 45 points are variable.

Looks solid as is, pretty much does what it says on the tin. You have enough mid str weapons to take down lighter vehicles and enough poison to worry MC lists. Could struggle vs flyers/true horde lists but I like it

I would remove the Incubi and get 3x Kabalite Trueborn with Blasters in that Venom instead. This pains me to say as I love Incubi and their models but the Trueborn will perform better on a more consistent basis.

Incubi + Archon is also saying 'shoot this Venom down first' whereas the Trueborn, whilst up there on target priority, would be a lot closer to the Ravagers on your opponents threat level.

Depends on what your going for really. I'd take the Trueborn to a tournament rather than the Incubi but if your just having a blast with your mates then Incubi are cool and fun. Mine rarely make combat these days to anyone who knows what they're doing but on the odd occasion they do they simply murder things.

If I was making it more competitive then I'd remove the incubi and archon and probably replace them with a haemonculus + 4 wrack squad, and another kabalite venom squad, this would give me 2 more scoring units, another venom and blaster.
But, I just like the idea and models of the archon and his bodyguard (like the old 3rd edition, none of those lahmians and snake guys).

I know the Archon's venom may be a prime target. One alternative is to take only a shadowfield, combat drugs and venom blade on the archon, and use those remaining 30 points on night shields for the ravagers and the incubi tansport.
This would probably give more value for points, as, as you said, the archon will rarely see combat.
