This is for those of us, who want a drop pod that is not only acceptable, but actually has potential for the advanced modeler to use as a base. Not to mention being very CHEAP to create. You can equip an entire 2000 point army in less than 20mins, including painting in one color. This may be old news, but I found this to be good enough to risk being pointed and laughed at. Here is the link: PVC Drop Pods

I have a question for anyone who has constructed these:
How do you model the stormbolter?
I really do not like the idea of the turret on top, it just seems out of place there. Any other ideas?

Also, I think the SW army featured in last month's (the month before's?) WD had a bunch of these suckers. If they're gonna put 'em in WD, well....

blue loki: I have also thought that it would look wierd. Of course, it couldn't go anywhere else or it would screw up the LOS during play. I was thinking to properly do it one would need to make a holesaw cut on the top of the dome. Then make it the hat on top of the stormbolter as if the thing pops up immediately upon landing. I think it would solve the problem of the silly pintle sitting on top of the dome problem.

If you wanted to get cute, I could see cutting the hat and mounting the stormbolter turret beneath it, and then mounting it on a length of 1/4" or smaller PVC or even a bolt which then leads to a "foot" just below the bottom lip of the pod, so that if you push down on the pod the bolter would "pop up". That said, it's probably another hour or two's work there, so I wouldn't reccomend it unless you're crazy.

Being Space Marine vehicle, there's a *big* chance you might find the stats in their Codex.

i got the old codex... but it isnt in there....(duh i would not ask if i cant find it in the most logical places...) anyways i called a friend i know the point cost now so im planing to make 3 of them ow and i printed out the templates and they are 120% of what it should be(1cm on the drop pod=1.2cm on the template)

The question is, how are you going to use them? Drop Pods are worthless without the "Drop Pod Assault" special rule. And I'm pretty sure you can't 'loot' the special rule, seeing as how it is independent of the vehicle entry. I suppose you could use them as open-topped bunkers, which can never be re-entered...

Hrmn...Can he 'loot' a dreadclaw (chaos) drop pod? Or the IA drop pod? Probably not in a tournament, but depending on local play, that could be workable...

I was actually thinking of scartchbuilding dreadclaws for my CSM army but couldn't find any thing for the center hold, the PVC pipe might just work.
I dont really like the look os the ones that guy did, they look kind of cheesy, but whatever.

Yeah that was the route I was going with mine but just never got around to adding the cover. Pic is below for reference (no top cover though). I did end up adding a bit of height to the pod becuase LOS would have been hard to draw on anything close to the pod (another limitation of putting the SB on top).
Another local guy put his SBs on a boom coming from the pod. Looked cool but would have LOS issues.

Seriously, how the heck do you even FIND a thread this old? I think Hellfury's initial post was with a difference engine.
Honestly, we frown upon thread necromancy unless you have something really important to add. Otherwise, please start a new thread.
Thanks!
