An opponent stated that the turret plasma cannon need not check for Gets Hot! before firing, just the plasmaCan sponsons. We were rushing to finish on a tourney clock, so I let it go. No biggy.

Now, though, I'm flipping pages in the Codex:IG and can't find a reference. Not page 49. Is there another place? The RB?

Was my opponent wrong?

I do not think the Executioner Gets Hot!, so you only need to roll for the sponsons.

Vanished Completely

As above implied:
It doesn't matter what the weapon fires, plasma or otherwise, it only matters if the weapon has the Get's Hot! Special Rule. This I know for sure, as it is the primary reason that Tau plasma weapons are so much better then the human equivalents. Sure they are a point weaker, but they still have anti-terminator properties and are strong enough to wound on all bar 1's without the annoying Get's Hot! Special Rule that always kills my own people... every-time. Okay, not every time, but so many times that it make fun of probability....

So the answer to your question is simple:
Grab the Codex, take a look at the weapon entry for this particular tank's primary gun and conclude if it has the Special Rule or not.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

Affirmative, page 49 at the bottom, Executioner Plasma Cannon does not have the "Gets Hot" special rule. As a result you do not need to roll, Gets Hot is a rule that most plasma weapons just happen to have, it is not something that comes with the title "Plasma".

Ah. *Lack* of the Gets Hot! rule in the listing.

Derp.

Thanx, gents.
