I needed to add a small amount of points to get to 1500 and picked up some more scouts on eBay for a decent price.

I have a 5 man squad armed with pistols and knives that I run in a Storm
I have a 5 man squad with bolters and a heavy bolter.

I don't know what to do with these, I am tempted to set them up with shotguns just so I have all 3 sorts for the future but I read a lot of people saying the scouts are basically pointless with shotguns.

So, Shotguns or Bolters?!

Kitbash snipers?

Shotguns are a jack of all trades, master of none option. Most people recommend specialization, so they get a bad rap.

But they look cool, and are kinda OK. I like to mix some into my CC squads.

I will get a straight sniper squad in a month or two so dont really fancy a kitbash now.

Boltguns are kinda meh. I like the LSS w/ Shotguns.

I just noticed your sig has you as an Imperial Fists successor. That shifts things form “they all have pros/cons, use what you like” to “more bolters” Bolter drill helps make up for BS3, and means that you can actually count on shooting stuff with them.

Yea my crimson fist scouts run bolters, my raven guard run shotgun and run both on the LSS with heavy flamer to great effect.

Sniper dudes are also good backfield holders

It depends. What do you want the to do? Where will they fit into your list?

Well shotties allow you to rapid fire and assault and if that's what you plan on doing with them you should go the way of the shotgun. If you plan on having them scout in and plant on an object I'd say go with bolters.

I run 3 scout squads with my Raven Guard Army, 2 full 10 man sniper squads with cloaks and a 5 man close combat squad mounted in a LSS with some shotguns mixed in. I far prefer my snipers over the CC option but it's a fun cheap troop slot fill with the potential to do some damage, but it's never been a game changer for me.

I think I will go for Shottys with this squad just to give me the flexibility as I enlarge my army to pick and choose what I want, using the Fists tactics I will be getting more potency from Boltguns but I do often play Tau and the option of having some shottys to hit them with then rush in and create some havoc in assault could be very handy.

If you're assaulting and have better skilled (I and WS) than the enemy, take ccw.
You're assaulting a better cc enemy, take shotguns.
Drive-by in a LSS, bolters.
Holding position , sniper rifle.

It's simplistic, but it does for me.
