A small IG 500 point list I made for a campaign at my local game store. I'm new to both this army and 6th edition. All help including criticism is appreciated. ( Just don't make me feel too bad =] )

500 points=

CCS
3 plasma
85 pts

PCS
1 autocannon
2 sniper rifles
50 pts

Infantry squad - 50 pts

Infantry squad - 50 pts

Infantry squad - 50 pts

Veteran squad
3 meltaguns
2 flamers

That is it! I was also think'n about dropping the vets and chimera and bringing in a leman russ of sorts or a hyrda and griffon. Please help =)

I think this looks like a fine 500pt list. Personally, I would prefer having a LR, as AV14 would be great at these points.
If you can squeeze in the points, add a lascannon into each infantry squad.

prefer the LR to the other armor? or the vets and chimera too? and if i do take the LR isnt that, autocannons, and and melta enough for AA ? or is it either LR or the las? i dont see too many tanks coming in 500 points game but i think another IG player might be doing a LR and a vendetta in his... =(

also, if i get rid of the vets what will i do for another troop choice?

Put ccs in chimera, don't waste points on gear for pcs. Better get autocannon teams on infantry squads.

I'm also not sure if you can take 3 meltas and 2 flamers for vets simultaniously.

That leave me 20 points, i was thinking either 4 snipers in my PCS or a lascannon. thoughts on this?

Go with the lascannon, you can at least make it twin-linked against vehicles/MCs via orders so the BS3 isn't as big of a deal. Sniper rifles aren't great anyway, you pretty much have to roll 6's to wound or they're pointless.

Wonderful point! Would you recommend anymore changes to the list? What will be my biggest problem against another army? How can I solve it?

It's tough to build a list that has an answer for everything at 500pts, and the things you would struggle with would be armies that can get into assault with you quickly (not as bad in this edition). Drop pods could be a bit annoying but if they have melta or plasma you can laugh that off as they'll likely only kill a few guardsmen.

A flyer/FMC would also pose some serious problems, though there's not much you can really do unless you take a Vendetta and put the melta vets in there... Or you could drop all the wargear from the PCS, drop one Infantry squad and put the PCS in the Vendetta for a late game scoring unit.

I guess it's a pretty big change, but if you are expecting to face flyers you could do this:

CCS w/ Missile Launcher - 65

PCS (In Vendetta) - 30

2x Infantry Squad w/ Autocannon - 120

Vet Squad w/Chimera, 3x Melta - 155

Vendetta - 130

You would unfortunately have to drop the Plasma from the CCS, but you make up for it with 3 TL lascannons. Use any wargear you want on that squad, I just don't hate MLs as much as most people, it's still S8 AP3 that can be TL (I'm looking at you Tyranid MCs/ SM Characters).

Still a decent amount of scoring bodies and one late game objective grabber in a very cheap flyer that will murder something important.

Would dropping a couple special weapons and getting a defense line with the quad gun be feasible anti-air?

I do like your idea though, I just like more of a foot army, defiantly will consider though.

Yeah that would work too, you'd also have a nice little place to sit your autocannon teams behind. I always tend to forget about fortifications because no one I play with has any of them... You'd be best off having someone in the CCS man the gun, as it's your only BS4 not in a Chimera.

That does sound nice, I'll have to grab 50 points away somewhere though, were do you recommend? ( referring to my changed list I posted in the replies plus a lascannon on my PCS )

Is the quad gun another 50? or does it come with the ADL?

I'm not sure offhand if the quad gun is extra points, it'll all be in the BRB though. If it comes to 50 pts total, you'd be able to drop the upgrades from the PCS and just use them for orders and scoring bodies, and be at 450 total with the second list you posted (I think it all added up to having 30 pts left before dropping the 20pts in upgrades from the PCS). You can always drop one meltagun or one plasma gun too, it's tough to get everything maxed out in a 500 pt game so you will occasionally need to trim some edges.

500pts exactly!

You charge ahead with the meltavets and use them to suicide whatever vehicle needs popping, then use the demolisher cannon to wipe out anything else mean! And since the demolisher is str 10 ap2, if you need to use it to pop a vehicle, that is certainly an option. Having 14/13/11 armor at 500 points is pretty devastating. Use your infantry to defend themselves while they are holding objectives.
