Disclaimer: The following comments are based on the idea of a competitive list, for a friendly game your list is fine. I don't personally think the Black Templars can truly compete at the tournament level (I truly wish they did, but until they get something new in a supplement, it's just not gonna cut it for me). Their special rules are fairly lackluster and I personally play them as Ultramarines when I'm trying to be competitive (I don't own any bikes, otherwise I'd go with White Scars). That said, you want to capitalize on the few things that are good about the Templars: Crusader squads (either MSU or large blob) and the crusader USR. While I think you could truly scare some people by showing up with an insane amount of infantry led by Helbrecht, I think that it would be more of a 1-hit-wonder and most people would just grind away at it, so I think you're better off with MSUs. I also think that our unique characters are rather garbage (again competitively-speaking) Here's how I would approach BTs for a competitive game at 1750: Chapter Master, artificer armour, BP, Burning Blade Honour Guard squad (x8), chapter banner (half axes, half swords) (combined with CM = 48 attacks on the charge!) Crusader squad (x5), sword brother with combi-plasma, las/plas, rhino Crusader squad (x5), sword brother with combi-plasma, las/plas, rhino Scout squad (x5), vet srgt, either all shotguns or all CCW/BP, cloaks, LSS, HF Scout squad (x5), vet srgt, either all shotguns or all CCW/BP, cloaks, LSS, HF Stormtalon, skyhammer TFC Devastators (x5), vet srgt, 4x LCs LR, MM ADL/quad-gun That's 1750 on the dot. Thoughts: your CM and HGs will hop in the LR and push forward and WILL shred anything they get their hands on, they will pump out an insane amount of attacks, just watch out for S8 attacks that could insta-gib your CM, use LOS carefully and make sure your champion takes the unwanted challenges. Your 2 crusader squads can push forward in support of the deathstar and establish a firebase midfield or cap an objective. Your scouts (in LSS) will be your objective-insurance and late-game contesters thanks to their outflank ability, remember that they have move through cover and crusader special rules so they can move very quickly. Your devs + ADL/quad-gun will be your anti-armor/flyer unit along with the Stormtalon, don't forget that the LR has some good guns too; once your deathstar is out, the LR will most likely be ignored. Your TFC is there to handle large blobs or barrage-snipe some key enemy units/characters; it's a great all-in-one tool and should be an auto-include in any SM list, you'll also get a reinforced ruin which is a great spot to hide him along with a objective and one of your scout units. I hope this helps, I'd love to see the Templars come back in favor with a cool supplement, in the meantime we gotta work with what we have... Cheers!
