Hi All

I have already posted a Khorne heavy army here but also had a planned to write a Nurgle heavy army too. Like my Khorne list I like to make it follow a theme and a little bit fluffy but would like a certain level of competitiveness. Here is my first draft:

LORDS
Daemon Prince - Chaos Armor, Demonic Flight, Scaled Skin, Soul Feeder, Sword of Striking, Charmed Shield, Dragonbane gem, MoN, Level 2 wizard (Lore of Nurgle or Death, not decided yet).

HEROES
Festus the Leechlord
Exalted Hero - BSB (Ranger's Standard), Shield, Halberd, Mon

CORE
Chaos Warriors x 38 - Command, Banner of Swiftness, MoN, Shields, Halberds

SPECIAL
Gorebeast Chariot

RARE
Mutalith Vortex Beast

--- 1999 ---

So my warriors will be hording up as a big fat deathstar unit which should be able to murder most things in CC. They will be supported by the beast and the chariot (beast will soften things up, chariot for taking flanks etc.). The prince will be a bit of a wild card, he will either support the deathstar too or fly off ahead to sort out any ranged/artillery units giving my star grief. I did originally try to have a couple small units of warhounds to screen the warriors and help take flanks if they survived long enough but couldn't find a way to fit them in. If that is a good idea ill have another look, see how I can free up some points for it.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I'm not sure about the vortex beast, although if you were going to use one then in a nurgle army with nurgle magic is probably the best way to do it, cast curse of the leper to lower the target units toughness and then hit it with the vortex beast bound spell.

My trouble with it is its unpredictability and I feel its just a littl underwhelming for its point cost. Thats my 2p anyway.

I would put nurgle on the gorebeast and get another one to go with it. Then you should have about 90 points left over, you could get a couple of units of dogs and beef up your BSB.
You'll have to get rid of the rangers standard but I think a close combat monster would be more useful to you than ignoring dangerous terrain.

That is a lot of points in one unit that will more then likely not get it's value back, unless your opponent is suicidal. I am also a fan on the large warriors blocks with good character support because things just bounce off them or tend to get murdered, however, besides the DP and GB you don't have much to draw fire/attention so getting the unit in CC could be touch and go, even with M5 from the banner. I have run similar lists but dropped the unit size down to 24, giving you a 6x4 unit with 2 guys so soak early casualties. This is assuming the BSB and Festus will be in the unit, making them pretty tough to bring down. This should allow you to throw in either some chariots/knights to provide fast moving threats that will distract him from being able to avoid this unit. I also agree the BSB should be given CC orientated equipment instead of the banner. I would go sword of might, enchanted shield, and some other item. He drops 4 str6 attacks and has a 2+/5+ regen right there.
