So in Kill Team Reserves is not used "unless as a result of the Outflank Special Rule." The Infiltrate rule says "Having Infiltrate also confers the Outflank special rule to units of Infiltrators that are kept as reserves."

I'm a little confused because this seems to indicate that Infiltrators must be placed in reserves in order to be able to outflank, but in Kill Team the Reserves rule is not used. So can infiltrators outflank?

Infiltrate gives you Outflank. Outflank allows you to go in reserves.

That's what I thought too, but the language makes it sound like if you have Infiltrate you don't actually have Outflank until you're put in reserves, and since in Kill Team you can't be put in reserves until you have Outflank, it seems to me like it wouldn't actually give it to you.

Infiltration doesn't involve reserves, it is just a special deployment rule. You can infiltrate in Kill Teams, and there is even a specialist rule that lets you do it with one of your models.

Yes, you can Infiltrate, that's not in question here. The issue I'm asking about is whether having Infiltrate will let you go into Reserves and then Outflank. The wording seems to suggest that you have to have the ability to be placed in reserves before Infiltrate will confer Outflank.

Yes, you can outflank in kill team. "Furthermore, the Reserves rule is not used unless as a result of the Outflank special rule." So the technical break down.

Step one, declare which units will be held in reserves
step two, units held in reserves with infiltrate now get outflank
step three, deploy your force. Models with out the outflank special rule that were held in reserves must deploy now (kill team rules)

I hear you, and trust me when I say I want to believe that's the way it works, but the feeling I get is this:

If a model can only be placed in reserves as a result of having outflank, and an infiltrator doesn't gain outflank until he's put in reserves, how can he be put in reserves before he technically has the outflank rule? Remember that Kill Team missions do not have the reserves special rule, so you can't simply declare someone is in reserves during deployment.

I just don't want to show up for a match and have someone rules lawyer me out of being able to do this so I'm playing devil's advocate in order to get other opinions on this. I prefer Infiltrate over Scout (which simply states that models with that rule also have outflank) in case I don't want to place the unit in Reserves, so I'd prefer to not have to go that route.
