Can a more experienced tank commander tell me what leman Russ tanks they would bring, and point out why they wouldn't pick some at all.

Well in that case... oh wait, I guess I could say something constructive.

I don't play guard, but ever since 4th my main opponent has been russ heavy IG. Seeing fewer than 2 russes in 1K plus games is virtually unheard of in my meta for IG.

This edition hit the ordnance russes particularly hard as every gun but the main will snap fire, so generally those are best naked for their large blast. These are your LRBT and demolisher. LRBT is long ranged MEQ killer and general AT, while the demolisher ruins everything it can touch, should it get into range. Best to take these bare bones, and let them just snap fire the heavy bolter on the hull.

The non ord russes each shoot more, and excel at slightly different things. Exterminators crack light-medium armor and dakka MC's. They benefit from hull lascannons for more AT punch, but also sponsons a la carte for whatever your bane is. They are cheap for what you get. The eradicator is generally better off being a hellhound IMO, but I would bolter boat it(bolter sponsons, bolter hull gun) if you want it. The punisher lays waste to MC's and smaller units, best bolter boated. The vanquisher is all about cracking armor, and should always be fielded with a hull lascannon. Put it in a corner to snipe heavy armor. The plasma death tank, aka excutioner makes great use of plasma side sponsons for max plasma death.

Pask is good in any russ with a ton of shots, or a russ dedicated against armor/MC's, so your vanquishers, exterminators, and punishers. He is still very expensive though.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Eradicator - best vs 4+ (or worse) in ruins or behind adl. Nothing better at 1-st turn wiping out pathfinders. Gamechanging in this situations. Good vs most infantry-based lists.

Demolisher - i'd take over lrbt. Will be the cheapest Russ in the list cause doesn't need sponsons or anything else. More of a fear-factor and backup for cracking high-av targets.

Exterminator - Jack of all trades. Personally i field this tank as part of ig allied detachment for my orkses. Hb sponsons, Lazcannon, Pask. 235 pts is alot but i find it worth the points cause it's useful in almost any situation. Ability to put 4 s8 tl shots, s10 lazcannon and 6 s6 shots at bs4 allow to threat basically anything from tanks to flyers. Possibility to reroll to-wound on mc's is handy also. But i'm not sure if that's what you need in ig lists cause specialisation is usually better.

This are the ones i consider best. Others are useful either.

Especially when fighting MSU infantry blobs.

The plasma Russ is excellent for for saturating TEQ and MC with fire. It can do either 3 plasma cannon shots safely, or if you're feeling froggy you can use plasma sponsons for 5x PC shots, at the risk of overheating.

The vanquisher with is obviously well suited for AT.

The LRBT is great for nostalgia.

Honestly, I wouldn't take any of them anymore. The Baneblade variants are just plain better most of the time, unless you're playing a really small game where you can only afford 1-2 LRBTs.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Not all people accept superheavies. It's just another world and all previous tactical knowledge is outdated when you face superheavies. Dispite gw claiming that SH are super legal in regular games, i'd first ask the guyz in your lgs if they'd play vs a sh you're gona buy. Especially if it possesses S: D weapons.

s weapon lol

Vanquisher is great for taking out heavy armour.

2d6 to pen meaning generally if you hit, you are getting a pen a taking out what ever it looks at, although it generally becomes a target very quickly.

9-18 Leman Russ Demolisher charges is the correct and manly option for any situation.

Yes, any situation.

Even that one.
