Hi gang,
I've never played Infinity but like the Nomad models and want to start a force. There's a few people who play in this area so I hope to start. The Infinity website suggests the models below as a 300 point starter force.
I cannot necessarily tell what the weapons loadouts are but I was wondering if any Nomad players out there had any opinion on this recommendation. Is this a good first purchase in your opinion?

It's solid, especially if you're interested in TAGs. The only thing I don't like about it is the Sin Eater really should be the Heavy Machine Gun not the sniper, since the HMG is better most of the time. I wouldn't worry too much about what weapons the models have, proxying is encouraged for new players.
A couple things I would bring up:
Nomads have three starter boxes, 1 themed for it's two subfactions called sectorials: Bakunin and Corregidor and the one you linked which is a mix of everything. Bakunin is the "weird" quasi religious faction with good hackers, multiple infiltrating Camouflage options and a solid defense. Corregidor is more like a workhorse with emphasis on Airborne Deployment (offboard deployment), good support options plus it brings along some interesting mercs. They're all playable in the Nomad main faction, and the boxes do fluctuate in point value.
The Meteor's full potential can't be realized outside of the tournament system unless you bring a Guided Missile Launcher (artillery on a Remote, which Nomads are infamous for). They're basically a spotter that deploys from offboard similar to deep striking with a variety of support equipment.
Unless that sounds like something you're interested in I would recommend the Lunokhod blister instead since:
1. Besides the fact Crazy Koalas (the little robots) are awesome and every Nomad player should have a pair, you can use the Koalas as proxies for Remote Servants.
2. You can use the Lunokhod as any of the Nomad Heavy Remotes since they're hard to tell apart.
Nomads have finally gotten models for all their TAGs (Huzzah!) so you might want to take a look at the other three to see if you like the models. All of them are available to the main faction but limited in the sectorials.
-Lizard is a standard TAG, most factions have an equivalent with some stat tweaks. Can indirect fire with its grenade launcher. Only TAG in Bakunin.
-Geckos are light TAGs that are slower and have shorter range but are significantly cheaper in pts. Available to Corregidor.
-Iguanas have a heavily armed pilot that ejects from the damaged TAG and keeps fighting. Available to Corregidor.
-Szalamandra have a big honking gun. Think railgun combined with a minigun. Only available in vanilla Nomads

Well, it's difficult to say which sub faction I want to play. I find there's not a lot of info out there that clearly states how the three are functionally different from each other. Much of what I find has to do with how the fluff is different. I can say that I probably like the models in the Corregidor box set the most of the three box sets. But I don't fully understand what I'd be losing or gaining by choosing a Corregidor setup over the others. Do either of you have any thoughts on that.

I'd actually recommend starting with the Corregidor box if only because those are the newest models and are really versatile even in a vanilla Nomads list. The Vanilla Nomads box is old, and a lot of those models are going to get replaced in the near future.
With Corregidor as a sectorial, you're looking a very solid, organized force. You're going to have all regular units, almost all with courage (which is great for your guts checks), solid BTS (which is going to be incresingly imporatant with Tohaa in the meta now) and very little impetuous, if any (trying to do a quick brain scan for it now).
You have access to a very good unit in the Intruder (Camo, good all around stats that you DO pay for), perhaps the best basic fireteam in the game in Wildcats (-6 BTS, good arm, solid BS), and some really fun AD units like the Hellcats and Tomcats.
I actually think Corregidor is a really great way to start playing infinity because they don't have "too many" tricks up their sleeve and are farily forgiving and straightforward to play.

The first is the official, if you're looking at this on an iPhone or something that doesn't have Flash go to the second one.
The difference between Sectorials and the main factions are availability and link teams.
Availability is how many times you can take a certain unit. It's the stat value AVA, so for example Tomcats are AVA 2 in regular Nomads so you cannot have more than 2 in your army. If you're playing the Corregidor sectorial the Tomcat AVA is 4. AVA T means unlimited. You'll also notice that certain units from the main Nomad list are no longer listed in Corregidor.
Link Teams are squads of similar models grouped together to gain strong bonuses. They're far more efficient in terms of movement and stronger on the defense and offense then they would be individually. If you look at the Sectorial army list you can see that some units have the rule Linkable like Wildcats, which indicate they can be grouped into link teams.
To sum up, Nomad main faction, a variety of options but less organized. Sectorials, restricted concentrated options but more organized.

Okay, so basically a Sectorial alters the availability of units and allows for what is called "Link Teams".
If you choose to do a Corregidor force, you can only take the following units:
Wildcats(a maximum of 5 models, which is a full Link Team)
Mobile-Brigada(a maximum of 6 models)
Intruders(maximum of 5)
Tomcats(5 and the only way to take a "Zondcat" servant bot)
Hellcats(5)
Gecko TAGs(4)
Iguana TAG(1)
Alguaciles(availability Total--meaning you can take as many as you want or have points for)
Moran, Maasai Hunters(maximum of 2)
1 each of Clockmakers and Daktari
Carlota Kowalsky, Tomcats Sergeant
Lupe Balboa
Senor Massacre
McMurrough
Valerya Gromoz
Then you can take the same number of Remotes(things like the Lunokhod Sputnik or the Zondbots) as you normally would be able to take in vanilla or Bakunin.
Basically if you want the kind of cool, Aerial Deployment potential?
Corregidor is your go to choice. We have aerial deployment potential en masse(Hellcats and Tomcats), lots of flamethrowers(the Tomcats, Wildcats, and Intruders all have combi- light flamethrowers meaning a light flamethrower is attached to their gun).

- Starter Pack ~$68 CAN
- Rulebook ~$75 CAN (Geez, that rivals GW almost)
Are there any models you'd suggest I pick up to supplement the starter set?

Don't get the rulebook. All of your rules are free online. Play some games, and then if you decide you like it, buy the rulebook for the fluff later.
Starting from the Corrigedor box, and assuming a 150 point "starter game," I'd do something like this:

Only requires one model, the wildcat with Heavy Rocket Launcher, and is actually a decent little starter 150.
I'd actually really recommend getting the Dire Foes pack with Lupe in it, as she's fantastic, and then build from there.

That's a $30 box for a single usable model. Unless he can find a buyer for Thrasymedes it's kind of steep for a new player.
Otherwise I agree, download the free rules and the Wildcat Heavy Rocket is a good fit for the starter.

He can use the civvie in YAMS games too. And start an ALEPH faction.... So all the models have potential use, but it is a bit much for a beginner. I would save the Dire Foes for much later.
The Corregidor starter is definitely the way to go. And download the free rules, and bookmark the wiki. Play a few games, and slowly add things to you force as you need want them.
Warstore will sell you the rulebook for $46 USD, and I suspect if you poke around you can do better than $75 CD(?). The rulebook is nice for the artwork and the background. It is not optimal for play. Buy minis first

I also like the Wildcat rocket launcher model so that's an easy sell.
Have any other suggestions for 150 lists that would only have me need to buy one or two extra models?

Rules are free.
If you want the fluff, you WILL need the books.
Especially for the sectorial forces - which are covered in Human Sphere (main factions - bar Aleph and Tohaa - were covered in the main rulebook, Aleph was covered in Human Sphere, and Aleph's sectorial and Tohaa were covered in Paradiso).

Yeah, I was torn about that, but the rocket launcher chica gets you closer to 150 than the Spitfire bro does.
