I am new to 40K and Tau Empire, I would like input on the list. These are the models that I currently have, but I plan on getting a riptide soon. I would like to see what you guys think, any help would be mush appreciated. Thanks

Ok here are my thoughts:

Commanders are one of the best platforms for the signature systems Multi-Spectrum Sensor Suite for ignore cover, Commander and Control Node for twin-link, and Puretide Engram Neurochip for tank/monster hunter. Drop his guns and target lock to pick these guys up. Now the rest of his unit will benefit from these awesome wargear.

Also, drop the Ion Rifles from the Pathfinders. They are really fragile and high on your enemy's to-kill list since they provide such awesome buffs to your army.

Also, give your Broadsides the Early Warning Override. This'll allow your Broadsides to shoot at an enemy model that just arrived from reserves; a very effective way to minimize the damage this new unit would cause to your army.

Other than that, this is a good start. A Riptide would be a very effective addition to your list.

Giving the commander systems that prevent him from using his BS 5 is silly. Upgrade one of the regular crisis suits to a team leader, give him all three systems. Give the commander the same weapons as the rest of the team. If you are going to include two different weapons in the same squad, give one or two suits one weapon and give them target locks, give the other two the other weapon. Giving each one both a plasma rifle and a fusion blaster is a mistake as each suit is either sub par at killing heavy infantry or sub par at killing heavy vehicles. No suit should have weapons with different primary targets in mind.

The ion rifles are a mistake; Marker light units should only use marker lights, or you run the risk of killing the thing you just marker lit, or not landing enough marker lights to achieve your ends. Recon drones are also a waist of points, get rid of the ion rifles and recon drone and include more pathfinders. Another suggestion, put them in as many, same sized squads as possible. In larger squads it is easy to focus fire and pick them off, with smaller squads you increase the odds they will survive to turn three and beyond.

I suggest running 4 squads of 9 firewarriors instead of three squads of 12, and don't use squad leaders, the Ethereal is all the leadership you will need, just keep them withing the 12" bubble.

Aside from this, your list looks good. Good luck and long live the greater good.

My recommendation is to use the search function. It is your friend. Between the tactics section and tau list commentary in this section, there is literally weeks worth of reading material. The fact is, most comments tau vets or any other army's principal users make are the same and so are the questions.

Spend an afternoon trawling through tau related threads. Read the comments. Then if you have specific questions about how certain combos or play styles operate, post them in this thread and we will elucidate you. Welcome

Rule #1 is Look Cool.
