Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Qo'noS

Hi chaps.

I've been working on a foot based Space Wolf army, and I've been thinking about running a Wolf Guard Termie in my Grey Hunter and Long Fangs (because cyclone missiles) packs. I don't want to build a competitive army, but I'm wondering if this is a good idea, or if I should just run 10 man squads in Rhinos/Drop Pods

Cheers

This one of my favorite things about wolf guard! You can take 4 WG in PA and still take the 5th guy in TDA with the special weapon. Huge savings compared to SM termies for that special. The only issue I see with your strat is that you have to take at least 5 guys for each special weapon. If you only need 2 of the heavy weapons that gives you 8 WG standing around, although they do get cheap combi-weapons and could load up with those. One of my favorite things is putting the CML WG in with Long Fangs with a rune priest for Prescience. He adds alot of fire power being like two missile launchers in one guy and he can tank some of the nastier wounds.

If You take Wolf Guard, You might as well go Loganwing.
WG as GH leaders are a bad idea. You loose one special weapon. Yes, You can switch it with WG termie with heavy weapon but it is not the best idea.

If You like Wolves on foot You can try:

Logan

2 large squads (10 wg):
- 2 x WG termie / Heavy Weapon
- 8 x WG with combi weapon

3 small squads with:
1 x WG termie with CML
4 x WG with storm bolters.

You can spend the rest of the points on Long Fangs and some CC gear for the fangs.

In a list like that do you put Logan with the Longfangs for relentless? Get them walking across the table lobbing missiles like a boss. I'd be tempted to try squeezing in a rune priest somewhere

I wouldn't lose the special weapon as I'd have 10 GH with the WG on top, in theory at least.
I'm not so hot with the Loganwing idea ATM, but I might put a little thought into it.

I have had success with a terminator wolf guard in hunters, it adds a 2+ save in there with a power weapon, hes good for challenging out sgts as most can't hurt him with that 2+ armour.

If i want a hunter squad to be a shoot then charge squad I will just run power armour though, with either power weapon or melta bombs for anti infantry/vehicle

And a wolf guard with power weapon is mandatory in a squad of bloodclaws.

I'm still curious how many WG heavy weapons you want to field. It might be worth taking a drop pod for them and giving combi meltas to the left-over 4 to deliver some tank busting power.

I'm thinking heavy weapons only on WG that are with my Long Fangs, with the other guys going out as basic as possible to try and keep them cheeper

There is one evil as hell combo with loganwing.
Put Logan, 5 MM fangs and a WG Termie with ChainFist and Combi Melra in a drop pod. Deploy it near the meanest enemy tank and shoot. With SplitFire on the Fangs you can even take down 2 tanks.

Use the WG termie as a tank, and protect Logan,
In the next turn thy can shoot and assault. If player well You get rid of 4-5 tanks in 2 turns.
