In your opinion which is the better supplement and why?

Crimson Slaughter, better relics, no VOTLW tax, armywide rules (fear but still, it's free), actual changes to units...

Black Legion has at worst, two useful relics, at best three, mostly due in part to the whole REALLY REALLY expensive thing. Not to mention the really pointless expensive upgrade to Abbadon terminators (6 points on top of VOTLW REALLY!?), the fact that the chosen are made far worse with VOTLW (3 extra points!?)

It's just...If VOTLW was made free in the next supplement for everyone? Black legion would actually be better, but as it is, no.

I originally intended to use CS as a Ally, but with TWO awesome HQ relics (Armor and Balestar), they might have to be my primary. Now I'm not sure how many dirty looks i'm gonna get with my Crimson Slaughter army with... about 5 actual Crimson Slaughter marines in it...

I'll paint up the Sorcerer in the Red, and the Possessed, but I'm not sure about a Red Nurgle Biker lord.... it might be interesting....

The only thing CS codex doesn't have that the prime csm codex has are the relics and those can be taken through ally. CS should be called CSM 2.0.

There's a lot more to the Crimson Slaughter supplement too.

Honestly I like the Crimson Slaughter better. More interesting color choices (that ethereal blue mixed in with the red is a nice touch and pops nicely), a really neat idea I haven't seen for an army (haunted Marines!) and rules and relics that really tie into the fluff nicely (even if not all of the Warlord traits are that hot, they're still really fitting options).

Plus it seems everyone always likes painting dark and sombre armies (likely because you're half done by spray painting them black) so an army with some more visual pop like CS is nice too.

I love the BL and my army is painted as them. But that supplement felt just too bland :(
