So i have about 200$ to spend. I am looking at getting the battle box currently, a priest or 2, an extra box of warriors, skinks, and thats about all i can afford atm. But looking at what kinda things i should be going for to be semi competitive but still friendly with them.

Thats alot of points for the little bit of points id be able to field. With those models alone its about 1500 maybe if everything is overly tooled up could get up to 1750 or so. or am i just crazy on that?

Currently, you're quite optimistic. If you are so inclined, you may be able to stretch a Battalion to 1000pts. It'll not be competitive, however. Two boxes may boost it a minute amount, but you're shooting quite high.

Build slowly. Battalion can make a full 800pt army, find a fun unit you want for 200pts and bolt it on for 1000pts.

I believe a Slaan isn't legal until like 1200 points...maybe more? I don't have the book. For smaller games, just run a Skink Priest instead.

If I were you I would probably hold off on the extra box of Skinks. Instead pick up a Salamander (or 2 if you have the $$) they are really friggen good!
Instead of a Slann you should pick up Tetto'eko, he is really good to but not as good as a slann (but much cheaper points wise and fits at 1000 if needed) you could use Tetto'eko as a slann aswell since it is the same base size and essentially the same model size.

Yes. A slaan is something like 300 points naked.

you could use Tetto'eko as a slann aswell since it is the same base size and essentially the same model size.

Tetto'ekko is on a 40mm x 40mm and a Slann is on a 50mm x 50mm, so if you want to use him as a Slann you won't be able to rank him properly with Temple Guard.

10 Temple Guard (from the Battalion Box) isn't as viable as we would like, so before you start fielding them, pick up another box.

One of the most versatile units for us Lizard players is the Scar-Veteran on a Cold One. Given that Cold One Cavalry are a little overpriced, you'd be okay to only make 5 using what you get in the Battalion box and use the rest (with bits from the Temple Guard) to make 2 or 3 Cold One mounted Heroes/Lords.

You would have a sizeable enough army to learn the game if you add a Skink Priest to the Battalion Box.

Oldblood on Cold One
Scar-Veteran on Cold One
Level 2 Skink Priest
20 Saurus Warriors (with full command)
12 Skink Skirmishers w/ Brave
5 Cold One Cavalry
10 Temple Guard (with full command)

Puts you at 1059 before any magic items. Not too shabby.

Stegadon box also nets you a skink priest model and the shrine thing from the Engine of the Gods parts.

I have seen converted Tetto'eko using the parts from the EotG pretty easily.

And to echo what has been stated:

Cold one Cavalry plus Temple Guard parts can make a few Scar-Vet/ Old Blood on Cold One models.

Realistically, you could buy 2 battalions and a Stegadon and make yourself a 2k army for close to $250 USD.

The extra CoC can be converted into unit fillers, salamanders/ razordons, and characters (I would aim for 3-4 characters total!)

Skinks can easily be converted into chameleons and handlers for the beasties.

Good luck!

Ah my apologies I thought they were on the same sized base that is unfortunate. I geuss you could magnetize the base easily if you wanted to :p

Tetto is awesome, and goes really well in higher point games as well since he makes your Slann even better (reroll 1s to cast on a Slann is f'in bent).

I second the call for making scar vets out of your cold ones. Most good lizardmen players make 1-3 scarvet cowboys to run around wreaking havoc. They're just so hitty and resilient for their points. Give them a cold one+light armour+great weapon, then some sort of defensive kit to make them hard as nails. So like steg helm + dragonbane gem. Glittering scales/dragon helm + dawnstone. Armor of Destiny.

You can also never go wrong with more skinks Most players where I am run between 5 and 10 units of ten skirmishing skinks. They're hard to clear with bows because of skirmishing, and they're actually better protection for a Slann than a temple guard since it's essentially impossible to get into combat with them if the LM player knows what (s)he's doing.
