Looking to build a 2K list featuring Imperial Knights as an excuse to buy/build/paint these awesome models.

My meta is casual/non-competitive with a focus on scenario play, campaigns, theme armies and the occasional apoc game.

My plan is to feature a trio of them as my main detachment (I keep reading/hearing that three is the magic number).

From a fluff/hobby perspective I plan to paint iconography showing that these Knights have aided the GK in the past, and so this army represents the GK allies returning the favor and coming to the aide of the beleaguered Imperial Knights via deep strike.

I want all Codex GK units chosen to deepstrike to represent their sudden arrival.

My initial debate was do I try to maximize the number of GK I bring or go for fewer yet more powerful units? Still not sure.

My initial draft:

1 Knight errant
2 knight paladins

This should leave me 880 points for GK allies.

I was leaning towards the following 680pts:

GK Librarian
GK terminators (5 man) x2
Nemesis Dreadknight

That should leave me 200 points for upgrades for these units. How would people upgrade these units to maximize their effectiveness or support the Imperial Knights?

I was thinking servo skulls for the librarian could be fun and useful. Beyond that' I'm not sure as I have no experience with GK

The Thought of a 2K army with fifteen models really plays up the "outnumbered/last stand vibe" that I want to go for with this build. Plus ease of transporting it and setting up is an added bonus.

hmmm I will accept your offer of cookies.

While your list isn't an uber-competitive iteration of a 3 knight army (most people are going with IG for more bodies and Vendettas for AA), 3 knights in and of themselves are still going to curb stomp a lot of lists. Maybe poll your group and ask them how they'd feel about it? That or encourage them to look into superheavies of their own so that they could respond in kind to your knights. One last option that comes to mind would be to tone down the knights cc weapon to Str 10 AP 2 instead of Str D. Giving your opponent an invulnerable save is at least something. I know my Daemons would appreciate this

My opponents aren't clueless about Knights and this isn't a surprise build that I will be springing on them. They also have plenty of options (super heavy and otherwise) available to them if they so choose.

Don't assume that "casual/non-competitive" means "inexperienced and with limited models". We focus on scenario/campaign play and will build themed armies even if they are not the most competitive build if we can come up with a cool story for it or it fits a scenario we want to play. We don't play traditional tournaments. That doesn't mean we don't like a good bloody scrum...

That being said Imperial Knights are a legal codex. Imperial Knights have a lot of pluses, but I'm guessing that only having fifteen models is going to cause me problems in some missions, and I won't have a lot of tactical flexibility either. So it sort of balances out, especially when my regular opponents can build lists to address my knights and exploit things I am potentially vulnerable to ( flyers) and I have little room to change this list all that much.

Sorry, wasn't trying to suggest you or your gaming group are inexperienced by any means. That particular suggestion just stemmed from the fact that I've been playing 40K for 9 years and I don't own any superheavies. Just not my thing I guess.

As you mentioned you are going to be heavily outnumbered most of the time which will definitely give opponents an edge. Give it a go and have fun!

Drop the librarian get an Inquisitor in terminator armor and save yourself 100-140 points. The Malleus Inq with termie and psych lvl 1 and psycannon is 110 and I find it way more effective then a librarian.
