So I am finally going try and get back into fantasy again, and I have decided to use either the perry minis or try and get it right with GW minis. Question is does anyone use mixed state armies? Any examples? What's the best way of going about it? Go heavy on 1 state or make a regional army of states? Thanks for your input.

I play a Altdorf/Nun mix. The finest state troops from Altdorf with the finest engineers and gunners from Nuln.

Perry miniatures FTW ! Much cheaper and much better than the GW ones
You won't get much use of the bowmen as they are (can easily proxy for XBows though, they're English longbowmen after all ...), but the Pikemen, Halberdiers, Handgunners and Xbowmen are perfect, as are the Metal barding Knights
and yes you can definitely use mixed states, they could be a mix of state troops and standing mercenaries too to explain the differences in uniforms

Whilst the mixed state theme is cool, the fact is that with the exception of steam tanks and arch lectors (held in Nuln/Altdorf respectively) everything in the army 'could be' from one province. Elector counts have wizards as court advisors/ some live wherever they want, which hunters and flagies go where they please, and each state will have its own artillery...
As more of an asthetic choice, im working on being able to field the entirity of Ostermarks army, for example. I find that knightly orders really help break up all the yellow and purple...

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the input given. I like some of those models in the kickstarter. Real nice looking. I especially like the cannon set and want to see what the guy with the axe shield will look like. I was thinking of doing a regional army now and maybe have a heavier concentration in 1 state and lightly add one or two others. I was thinking of doing Stirland, Wissenland, and Solland. I like the idea of each and their color schemes.

Mixed State armies would usually only happen in the event of an external threat to the Empire.
The Empire isn't really a unified nation, but rather a loose organization of independent petty kingdoms who would view each other just as much enemies as they would the Skaven slinking down in the sewers.
That said, anything can be justified. One state might lend some troops to another in exchange for a small fee or they simply are there to protect their state's interests.

This is just a guess, but it seems like people are getting a bit too ambitious with these 3d printers. I'm sure one day it will become relatively easy to design and print new models, but right now the quality is just not there. I have seen some awesome designs recently. I just don't think most start ups are able to get the up front funding needed to get their games off the ground. It seems that many game companies have take years to go from cheaper metal casts to hard plastic injection molds. A lot of these kickstarters look like they are trying to bypass all those years of development and just dont have the money to make it happen.

These guys actually have the technology. The interest was just not nearly there. They're planning on relaunching it when they have a more solid line to offer in the hopes that the lack of interest was due to most of the interesting units being stretch goals.
To be honest, I believe the lack of interest is in the fact that they are calling this a brand new fantasy world with several armies a la WHFB, and yet they have released *nothing* of the fluff and besides the empire army they have said nothing at all about which armies will be represented.
