my first 1500 point daemon list.

think i will start with the foot herald, 1 plague bearer squad, daemon prince and plague drones on the board.with everything else in reserve deepstriking off the icon.

with the great unclean one i will use biomancy to try for warp speed and the eternal blade for increased attacks and initiative along side epidemus, the other palanquin herald and plaguebearers squad.

any advice or alternative tactics are most welcome. thanks for reading

This list at 1500 will do a lot of damage. DS in your guys turn two and see what happens. PBs can be played conservatively but with FNP ( heralds join them) they will be fine.

If you're dead set on using the GUO, don't do lesser rewards or the Eternal Blade. Go for two greater rewards because 4+ FNP is hilarious on a greater daemon as is +1 wound and IWND and/or re-roll failed invulnerable saves. If push comes to shove, the Balesword is way better than the Eternal Blade anyway.

Honestly - a GUO is great but often just underperforms. Your list is also very top heavy with HQs. That said it is not that disimilar to what I'm suggesting. What you will find exceptional are DSing SGs on to the icon.

SO my experience thus far

Epidemius really just is not that great after having used him. He falls short in a couple areas. First, the tally is counted at the begining of each of your turns. That means unless you really kill a lot (or do wounds as wounds are the only thing that count), turn 1 you are really looking at turn 3-5 where the tally is really working and at that point often you have already won.

FNP locus is very important for things like drones, as it gives them much needed survivability if their cover is ignored. That said I am also more in favor of Greater rewards than exalted. Without Fateweaver the Grimoir is going to screw you at some point, and can cost you your unit early on. Greater rewards allow for Greater Etherblades and S6 AP2 weapons really help against higher armor targets that nurgle struggles with. Level 2 psyker is also largely unneeded, they are only LD 8, so they are unreliable, at most give them Level 1, but that is mostly for improved deny the witch.

Plauge bearers don't need upgrades, largely you want them hiding so those points are wasted.

I like the GUCO, but honestly every time I deepstrike him it has been a mistake. He tends to be much better as a center board area denial tool.

I don't know a huge amount of advanced tactics about Nurgle Daemons, but I know a lot of people lack offensive power usually.

As long as you have enough plague drones and flying daemon princes with baleswords and you use each to engage the right targets, you should be good to go.

Make sure you take portal glyph on a DP and Grimoire on another to cast on the plague drones

I love running my GUO, generally my opponent blows every gun in the army at him and fails to down him. 2 greater rewards and ML3 is the way to go. Roll on biomancy and if you like what you have, try a spin on the nurgle table! The large blast AP2 is amazing, and the primaris can be pretty awesome as well. The best part about the rewards, is if you don't like what you get, like you said, Balesword! Good by HQ, wraithknight, riptide, whatever, it is dead! Always roll your warlord trait first, no need to double up on instant death.

My favorite style nurgle list is close to

GUO, ml3, 2 greater, maybe a lesser for fun.
Herald w/FnP and portal glyph for back field objective

15PB for herald unit
15 for whatever
10 with instrument

4 drones, icon, character with lesser
4 drones, icon, character with lesser

Soul grinder of nurgle

That leaves you with a lot of wiggle room to mess around with too. Throwing in additional heralds, or more PBs. I can't remember if there was an FAQ about chaining the icons off the drones, but I think you still can. 1 instrument usually gets my GUO asap on the table with 2 shots at a +3 reserve roll. He lands, unloads any weapons he might have from rewards or powers, then soaks up an entire army of shooting. Next turn he goes to work. If he dies (rarely), you just got a free turn to move and do whatever because your opponent wasted everything on one dude.
