Subject: Lightning field wounds count towards melee?

Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

So as the title states, today my campaign ran into a slight glitch where a unit of slaanashi Calvary and a Daemon prince (codex daemons) both charged a cryptek harbinger of the storm with lightning field. Long story short the daemons lost combat, now the issue arose that the wounds caused by lightning field, do they count towards the result or no? Please support your argument, both sides where argued today, one stated that because it states in cron codex that as the enemy unit has successfully moves into assault with the cryptek that the wounds should count. The other side argued that because there is no initiative step, I.E. ( hammer of wraith initiative 10 counts towards resolve) that it did not count, so the end of the day the result was that it did not.
So again, please toss me some opinions and supporting theories.
Cheers.

I'm going to say they do not count.
Here is why.
Lightning Field goes off when the unit is successfully charged and happens immediately (meaning it happens in the Charge sub-phase.
Per the BRB, when you Determine Assault Results, you only factor in wounds caused during the Fight Sub-phase. This is also why Overwatch wounds do not count.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Did the wounds occur during the fight sub phase or outside of it? The closest example would be Overwatch. It occurs when a unit declares an assault. However wounds taken during overwatch do not count towards the combat results.

So there is where the controversy arose, because it states that in the BRB like you say Happyjew that only wounds that occur in the fight sub-phase count, and the only time the lightning field goes off is once the enemy models have successfully charged into melee, so for example overwatch prevents the enemies from not reaching assault, then the lightning field does not go off. The real issue is that the necron codex is a 5th ed and there errata does not cover this issue.

Does it happen before, during or after the initiative 10 step? During or after: it counts, before: does not count.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.
