So I'm a pretty seasoned Chaos player. I may have helped some you Chaos players with your lists. Well I have gotten to the point where I have about as formidable a Chaos List as I can get and I want to start expanding into daemons. I usually run 2000 point games with my relatively mean Black Legion "Bringers of Decay" (Black Legion followers of Nurgle) which I've loosely posted bellow. My current list doesn't have a ton of holes. I'm debating whether to ally daemons in, or just start a daemon army and ally in down the line. I'm leaning to starting new with daemons so I won't be hamstrung by my theme. What are daemon essential themes? Tips? Mean tricks? I appreciate all help. Thanks in advance.

So my 200 point Bringers of Decay (Nurgle Black Legion) List. I'm not going into points and fine details. I know it works. I'm posting this for sake of filling holes with daemons if need be.

Chaos Lord:
VotLW, MoN, Sigil in Power Armor with Bolt Pistol and Spineshiver

Terminators:
VotLW, MoN, Situational weapons load out

Cultists:
whatever amount fills out the points with pistols

2 squads Plague Marines with same load out:
Sarge has bolt pistol, plaguekife, melta bomb 2x plasma guns 2x rhinos with dirge and dozer

2 baledrakes

3 MoN VotLW Oblits

Havoc squad. Sarge with stock weapons plus melt a bomb. Varying weapons on squad, Icon of Vengeance, VotLW

Tri Las Pred

Aegis with Quad gun

The only situation I've had trouble with is drop pod assaults behind me. Can I Nurgle Herald with nurgling portal and tar pit?

But I am leaning towards just starting new daemons. What are the essentials. No fluff needed.

First of all, are you going to continue the Nurgle theme or no?

Killing is easy. Being politically correct is a pain in the ass...

I'm leaning towards starting a new daemons. No fluff needed. Whatever is effective. I can ally in later on when I have a better feel for the army.

It depends what type of list you want bud. Flying circus? Screamer star? A particular god or theme?

Pretty much 100% of my experience is flying circus. It's what I'm working on and play testing at the moment. It's incredible. A great amount of fun. And when the chaos gods favour you it is devastating. It is a thinking mans army though, doesn't have the nurgle based resilience you are used to. One mistake and you're toast, get everything right though, and enemies will cry!

Here's some basics:

Fateweaver. Pretty much a must. Incredibly useful HQ choice. Even better when he's your warlord. His trait allows you to re-roll on the warp storm table which is incredibly useful. He also gives you a re-roll of your choosing each turn - which can prove invaluable. His mastery level 4 is quite useful too. Especially combined with BS6.

2 Exalted gifts is most common. People usually always take the grimoire on one, and the portalglyph on the other. The grimoire enables you to buff fateweavers invulnerable save to 2++ and as it's cast on a Tzeench daemon it becomes a re-rollable, keeping your warlord alive longer, and allowing you to manipulate the game longer.

Give the gifts to daemon princes. Always. They are incredibly useful as heavy support choices, especially with their acces to biomancy and telepathy. Give them warp forged armour and they'll last that little bit longer with their gifts.

Most flying circus list only have 2 troops choices if minimal size. The idea is to hold these in reserve and deepstrike on as late as possible. This is where the portalglyph comes into play. If you're lucky it'll end up somewhere nice and start spewing troops out all game.

There is a great amount of use for a Lord if Change. With 2 greater gifts and 1 lesser he can be a tank. Grade the lesser gift for a staff and he's a Str8 AP2 beatstick. He also has access to divination which can be incredibly useful. And the stock power prescience isn't as bad in this list as people think.

Another idea for a HQ daemon prince is the common 'lash prince' this is a daemon of slannesh that's given the lash of despair. Proves some pretty usefull AA. I don't use one myself, I find I have enough AA (so far)

Lastly - Be'Lakor. Needs to be an ally in my opinion, otherwise as leadership 10 he becomes your warlord, and you need fateweaver to keep that spot. He's expensive, so the list needs to be in the 2000 point bracket or higher. He comes with a cultist tax, but is tougher than a DP, has an epic weapon, is eternal warrior, and more importantly access to the WHOLE of telepathy. Incredibly useful.

5 flying monstrous creatures at 2000 is epic fun. You need to keep them in the air for as long as possible. Use at least the first 3 turns manipulating the board and the game, and go for a hard hit and objective grab turn 4/5.

Hope this helps a little.
