Hello I am just now looking into Warhammer Fantasy and I really enjoy the look and idea of the Vampire Counts so i decided to try and make a list. Now keep in mind I have never played a game of Fantasy I just had a chance to read over the rules and I obviously still have a lot to learn. This list is really to see if I understand the Concept and atleast get an idea of what units are good and what units are rubbish. So please leave any comments and feel free to tear apart this list I will not mind.

Lord/Heros
Master Necromancer
Master of the Dead
Nightshroud
Screaming Banner
Vampire
Dreadknight
Fear Incarnate
Banner of Barrows
Hellstead
Great weapon
Rare
Mortis Engine
Vargulf
Special
2x 20 Grave Guard
Vampire in one squad
3 Vargehist
Core
2x 6 Direwolves
3x 30 Skeleton Warriors
Necromancer in one

I believe that is the correct points for each unit type. Again let me know this is my first attempt at making a list. Thanks and have a good day

First and foremost, WELCOME TO WFB!!! You will find that, for the most part, even a defeat is still a fun game! Now for your list. I like the core idea that i believe you are trying to go for, but there are a couple things that are either wrong or could be improved upon.

1. Your Master Necro CANNOT take a banner. This is reserved for the Battle Standard Bearer which is a Hero Level upgrade for a Vampire. That leads me to point 2

2. IF you do make the Vampire a BSB, you can take a Magical Banner, BUT you then cannot take any other magical equipment. HOWEVER,,,,, as a Vampire player, you really really really do not need to take a BSB. This leads me to point 3. P.S> drop the stead on your Vamp. It is not needed and you will not get a "look out sir" when you put him in the Grave Guard.

3. Combine the two 20 man Grave Guard units into one 40 man unit. This will give them more staying power if and when you lose combat ( BIG IF ). You can then take the Banner of the Barrows and put it in this unit attached to the Banner upgrade!!! That will make this unit the money shot of your army.

4. Drop the direwolves. Yes they are cheap, but MSU of Skellies with a Master of the Dead boosting their numbers up from the start will turn these MSU into a tiny bit harder road blocks than dogs will. Also, make sure you have at least 25% of your lists points in core. THIS IS A MUST!! I dont have my book right now but i think you might be close.

Other than those glaring fixes, whatever floats your boat unit wise is your go buddy! I know that i dont like to be told " DONT TAKE UNIT X BECAUSE ITS HORRIBLE!!" Fantasy is a game of exactly that..... Your Fantasy.

BOOM!!!!

Thank you for the rule clarifications. I will be making changes now. I put the vampire on the hellstead so he could ride with the Grave Guard but if thats a bad idea i can add it to a warrior squad. Not sure how it works still.

No problem! While the idea of your big bad Vamp riding a Hellstead with your guys on foot might be epic.... in game terms,,, it is not a great idea. Look up in your BRB what "Look Out Sir!" is. That will give you an idea of why not to do that.

NOW HOWEVER if you want to make a pretty frakin sweet unit filler, putting a Vamp on a horse mounted on like a big rock would be a great cosmetic addition to the unit. It would also stretch your money a bit. Look up on here or on google what Unit Fillers are. It is a pretty simple thing that can make your hobby bucks go a long way, esp as a Vampire Counts player!!!

Boom

When your opponent starts to complain that your army is overpowered and you look down at your Beastmen army book and smile to yourself, your doing something right

Lords
Master necromancer
lvl4
master of the dead
nightshroud

Vampire
lvl2
Forbidden Lore
Fear Incarnate
Great weapon
Heavy armor
Shield

Core
2x 5 Dire wolves
3x 30 skelton warriors
Necormancer and flag carrier with screaming banner in same squad

Special

40 Grave Guard
Vampire in this unit
3 Vargehists

Rare
Mortis Engine
Vargulf

So I decided to keep the Dire Wolves because i like the fact that they normally the enemy is forced to at the very least waste a round of shooting dealing with them or the wolves tear the artillery to shreads And the banner I feel like is very useful due to the fact that you If someone is attacking the troops your necromancer is in they have a higher chance to fail their fear test
