Anyone have experience with either? What would you guys choose to get as traditional of a color as possible?

Traditional to what era?

And if it's current then surely GW paint is the most traditional

The price doesn't matter, I'm just honestly looking for a quick easy way to get them base coated and primed. From what I hear it's tough getting their color down, so I'm trying to decide which spray primer to get the closest to the space wolf color as possible.

Since both are much darker than the "traditional" GW Space wolves final color, either will do just fine. You're going to only really see that color in the deepest shadows on the model anyway as you highlight up from there. The "main" color for the GW scheme is Fenrisian Grey.

I'm not all that familiar with the current GW range, but Fenrisian Grey is supposed to be the replacement for "Space Wolves Grey" in the old system. Space Wolves were (oddly enough) NOT "Space Wolves Grey", they are "Shadow Grey", the replacement for which is "The Fang".

Depends on how far back you go. The "main" color in the studio army in 3rd edition was claimed to be Shadow grey but the color was closer to a 2:1 blend of Space Wolves Grey and Shadow Grey. Likewise the base coat in the most recent studio army is Shadow grey but there are several layers of lighter tones on top of that all the way up to the super light blue-grey. My Wolves use Shadow grey as the mid-tone and as a result are much darker than any of the studio armies.

I dunno, I used Shadow Grey on my 3rd edition SW and they looked very similar in tone to the GW codex pictures. You also have to remember GW photoshops their images, the colours aren't always true to life.
