Ok so I've been out of the hobby for 20 years. As boredom I've decided to paint Ragnar's Great Company. So far I'm churning through about 40 space wolves marines and 20 terminators.

Where my question for advice comes into this is in regard to flyers or the lack of them with Wolves. You see in my intense boredom I purchased an Adeptus Astares pack cheap so I've got two Talon and a Storm Raven ( as well as Storm Eagle from Forgeworld).

Now I've walked into two different GW shops here and if I do decide to play one, was extremely positive about me running the flyers as Space Wolves while the other (an American in city) was extremely negative about me running them.

Now what I am asking is should I paint these in a different chapter to run as allies? And if so what Chapter should I do it as? Screw him and just paint them up in my Great Companies Colours? I plan to do the Storm Eagle in Great Company colours. If I really have to go with another SM chapter I want that is at least story line compatitble and also I want to do my best to make them and my great company visually stunning assault to the senses (i'll try but I can't promise haha).

I don't want to be difficult or a pain to people but it seems like the rules for codexes and the SM codex are out of date from each other by years, am I correct?

What direction should I choose, he was even iffy about me running my FW Achilles too as SW. I read that yes it could be used by wolves though.

20 years out and slightly confused and not really feeling like a bible bashing event if i choose to go beyond the paint and play.

Thankfully you can take those models as the formation, which doesn't count as Space Wolves, and is external from the FOC.

They use the rules for the Space Marine equivalents, with a couple of little bonuses.

That said, you can paint them however you please. Rules and your armies fluff can be starkly different, so long as you follow the rules for them. A guy in my local scene has an army composed of Chaos and Loyalist Marine's he calls and paints Iron Warriors, but plays as Iron Hands.

You can choose to run them as which ever chapter you like, and I believe (but am not sure) they will pick up the relevant chapter tactics. Iron Hands is the most beneficial.

Cheers mate appreciate it. Found old mate on top of me quite aggressive and sort of doing this for a bit of R and R while on workers comp.

In saying that wanted to stick to the rules as much as possible.

Paint it however you like, it's your model after all. And as stated, the SW codex is pretty out of date so it makes sense to ally in these things until they get added in the new Codex. If anyone has a problem just ignore them.

The answer is always Ultramarines. What was the question?

Don't be sorry there are idiots, fools and geniuses behind the borders of every country.

So far leaning toward space wolves.

Think if I get another force it will be eldar or orc , EVERYone seems to be Marines of one type or another!

Paint them as Wolves. Unless you like the concept of an allied force. Most reasonable people will let you use them “counts as” with minimal fuss. Just be sure to keep units with separate rules distinct.

There is a formation for them, which gives rules for those who like to use it, if not there is the normal ally system.

If you are going to use them as allied C:SM, go with Iron Hands. They have one of the few chapter tactics that work on vehicles. You would need a HQ and a troop choice in this case. The hard part in this case would be keeping them painted to match the rest of your army, while still clearly using allied rules.

As long as your list is accurate paint them the grey of the wolves.

With luck Russ will grant us a new codex this year and well once again be a force to be feared without allies.

Space wolf grey would look nice on flier with sible hints of colour and details.

Long as there reconisble as what they are ment to be, do as you desire and enjoy it.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.
