Alright, for the past few months I've been wracking my brains, playtesting on Vassal, and absolutely NOTHING seems to work.

Basically what I want to do is field a 1500 point army with at least one unit of MoK CSM and one unit of Plague Marines, because it fits the theme of my homebrew warband. However, every way I look at it, the synergy is not there, and MoK marines have absolutely no way to get into combat that I can see. Rhinos are pure garbage in general for assault units, Dreadclaws, Storm Eagles, Kharybdis, etc all cost too much and are way too slow, Huron is still too slow because infiltrate really isn't all that great for CSM units... bleh, I have no idea what to do. They either die or do nothing, and cost a lot of points to boot.

I'm up for any suggestions, all I require is a suitable use for a) chaos space marine models with chainswords and bolt pistols and red color schemes, so maybe they could be Chosen or Berzerkers if you really think that might change things, and b) chaos space marine models with bolters and knives that can count as Plague Marines, Nurgle CSM with bolter and CCW, etc.

The obvious answer is a land raider?

That said, why bother with them? Even if they make it in to combat, they're not exactly highly effective

8,000 pts and counting
1,000 points, now painting.

The only way to really get them into combat is either with a land raider or with threat saturation. Case in point, my red tide list is 4 blobs of 19 ccw&bp csm. 76 MEQ wounds is just too much for most armies to deal with.

Rule of cool, that's why. Also, I was thinking of a double LR list, with Huron infiltrating a LR full of MoK CSM and on average also giving himself infiltrate, thereby infiltrating himself in a LR with the Nurgle CSM, but alas, 6th edition hates fun and it appears that LRs cannot infiltrate unless they are dedicated transports, i.e. full of terminators...

Dammit. If I'm reading right, LRs can only be infiltrated if they are a dedicated transport, is this right? If LRs could be infiltrated no matter what, then they wouldn't be so terrible, because you could infiltrate your LR, drop off your scoring troops, then use your stationary LR as AT, maybe even throw in a multi-melta.

Landraider works.

If you want to use both:

AoBF lord or Kharn + 9 csm (probably with a MoK but not obligatory) with ccw instead of bolters and 1 melta + combi-melta on a sarge - you'll need those meltas usually. Probably with an icon but not necessery. Sitting in a landraider with dirge caster, dozer blades to reroll dt tests.

Plague marines in rhinos hiding behind a landraider.

This will have a chance of working. But it needs some good support cause your guyz are expensive and you'll have problems if you can't eliminate key shooters or bauble-wrap before charging the main force.

Yeah... looks like the only way to make my suboptimal units even work a little is to take another suboptimal unit, *sigh*.

Well, my idea now is to use two small squads as described in two LRs, begin the game camping and using them as long range AT and as protective shells for my troops, then use the rest of my list to destroy everything else and hop the marines out late game to clear any stragglers and claim objectives. Helturkies here are a must I guess. Thoughts?

Don't underestimate marines in mellee. Marines can deal with many things in mellee especially if there's a powerful indep. And the moment you get rid of hard-shooters, they're gona be fine.
I've won tau with broadsides and riptides playing a sorc + MoS marines in a landraider + some regular csm with plazmaguns in rhinos hiding behind a landraider.

To make it better, take MoN bikerlord with 5 MoN Spawns running along. Some obliterators and melta-drop termies, and a drake or two. Than Khornate marines in a landraider will feel just about right.

I had a blast with Abby in a LR with 8 chosen of Khorne, supported by 2 7guys squads of PM in rhinos.

To make the PM troops, I took a cheap MoN lord on bike with Brand of S.
Everyone's scoring, and a squad of chosen led by Abby pretty much tear through everything. AC has LC or DLC, and there is a hidden PF just in case.
